Crank problem - they keep coming loose
« on: January 13, 2006, 09:58 AM »
Happy Friday

The specific problem is the loosening of my left hand crank arm sideways off the spindle.
They are Redline Proline cranks (single pinch bolt). Now I have tightened everything up as much as poss, but after a decent ride the left crank arm seems to slip out very slightly, meaning the spacers rattle around on the spindle between the arm and the bearings.

It's really annoying me, so any advice would be appreciated.

Odd.

And you have nipped up the pinch bolt and the end bolts?

yes, with a really long allen key, so got plenty of leverage on the tightening

try some thread lock on the end bolt
make sure you do that up first though, then the pinch bolts!!!

Ahh. The simplest things.
I have been doing up the pinch bolt first. Why I didn't think of doing it the other way around I don't know :idiot2:I'll try it and see it it works.
Cheers

cool
the pinch bolts should hold the crank arm on no worries but the end bolts can work loose and disappear (making it tricky to get it all tight again after a rebuild) so make sure it's tight.

do it up until it strips, then back it off a turn
