990 brake plate question
« on: August 01, 2008, 04:52 AM »
Is it possible to fit one of these on the rear and on the underside of the seat stays like new school bikes and use a hombre
Not sure if it is my memory, but i'm sure at one point I had my caliper brake fitted underneath BITD :idiot2:
Thanks
Gary

You could, yeah.  The problem is all the braking forces will be trying to pull the whole assembly down and its gonna flex like mad, the frame back thre is nowhere near as beefy as the forks are...  If you could secure the plate arms to the frame with jubilee clips or big fat cable ties (thats what I did when I ran one) that would help a great deal.

Your other option I suppose is to mount it on top of the seatstays to eliminate that problem  :)

you must strap it to the frame though like rob says
the teeny bolt wont hold it

fat cable ties will work ok, jubs will be best

alternatively just weld some lugs on it.
