Me & TAVISTOCK BMX in my local paper 1992
« on: July 24, 2008, 09:26 PM »
check this out...
in 1992 I headed up a bmx club in Tavistock, Devon where I grew up... this was of the era when bmx was 'dead' ... and we did a piece in the local paper, the Tavistock Times about why we needed a place to ride etc... we were all freestylers rather than racers.. the result was a metal god awful mini ramp that is still there to this day! here's one pf the pics that the paper used...
Check the GT Pro Freestyle Tour, Peregrine bars, dk stem, odyssey cd, etc!

and here's some of the line up of the old club - in there are current Old Fools riders Alan Ewell &  Andy Quest [questy] amongst others
happy days - and we are pretty much all on old bikes for the time... in there are Foxbats, a cw pistol pete, a gt vertigo, a curtis, a scorpion, a mongoose, a bandito, even a pk ripper. This summer im moving house back to this town.. many of these guys still live there... i wonder if they still havethere old bikes....?!!! may be worth a visit!

and me jumping them. Hell yeah.

that summer was amazing!

blimey that brings back a memory!

i've had a bmx since 1985. didn't get serious until about 94ish, mainly because a couple of mates started to get nice bikes but also because whilst having a holiday at a family friends cottage in tavistock we were driving through the center and some dude on an early gt vertigo with flourescent stickers. it had the s bend downtube. pulled a huge hop off a mini island (the raised painted white ones) in the road. it thought it looked rad so from then on wanted to get a better bike and got serious about the sport. i think they had one in the local bike shop too on the other side of the valley from where we stayed

Check the "Do" - Nice Mr Ice.   ;)

You still down in Tavistock? My In-laws are down there and have seen the Skatepark from a distance and it seems to have had some improvements in the last year or so - worth checking out when I'm down next?

Yo!
The skatepark in tavistock is a bit sh1t to be honest, all metal and tight transitions, but the mini ramp I learnt everything on is still there - its rubbish but I love it!
Im in brighton now but we are actually moving back to Tavistock in September!!!
And thats amazign about the guy on the mid school Gt Vertigo-
That was my mate Alan Ewell who still liveds down there, still rides and attends the Old FOols BMX Roadtrips I organise - he's a rad rider.
Small world eh?!!!
