Hi Lola

well , My tip is dont fall off , i know it sounds like i am taking the piss but honestly , its about staying on and not hurting yourself, belive me in the years of old school racing we have seen some horrible Bike / novice combos. Get a lot of practise in and try to understand what the jumps make you do at any speed, if anyone remembers either bournemouth 04 or sheffield indoor meet they will say the same make sure you enjoy it and dont think its easy and all will be well

its about the track and what happens to a bike when it hits the jumps ,and the way you land once you have jumped that matter , eating and drinking ,well i say eat a burger lol

Ask to use some of my body armour Lola  :daumenhoch:
I see you stand like greyhounds in the slips,
Straining upon the start. The game's afoot:
Follow your spirit, and upon this charge
Cry 'God for Harry, England, and Saint George!'

Get there early saturday and do lots of practice, session each straight starting from the berms or start hill, slowly work up your speed until your near  race speed. Youll prob be going faster sessioning each bit of the track then in the race anyway as your legs will me knackered by the time you get to it!, except the first set of doubles! spend most of ya time on these  :)

i'll be doing the same as i havent riden a track/raced since last year :LolLolLolLol: see ya on a berm  :)

Lola, as everyone else has already said, saftey and enjoy........the only other thing i would suggest is gearing, make sure your gearing is good (44t chainwheel/16t freewheel) as alot of people tend to have the bike geared way to low and are spinning the pedals like crazy!   :daumenhoch:

I used a 47t at Bradford.

It wasn't one of my brightest ideas!!

I was about the same distance off the pack as I usually am on my 44t.

I think I might start running a 45t as I can't spin fast!!!  :daumenhoch:

Metalbmxgirl, another tip is don't be self-conscious or worry about what other people might think of you when you're going around the track as that will stifle confidence and progression.

I was a bit self-conscious when I came back 3 years ago as it was a daunting riding in front of loads of spectators and getting paranoid that they were thinking what a crap rider/racer I was.  However, I've got more confident over the last few seasons and usually in the mix of most races I do.

I was cacking it on my 1st BMX race after about 22 years off!

Just don't let the situation get to ya, enjoy the fun of the day, and don't get too competitive.

As mentioned before spend as much time on the track as you can, session each bit of it so there's no surprises.

The other thing is you'll probably be going quite a bit faster in the race than when you're practicing - you can't help it, the buzz is amazing, so try to keep within your limits, and don't get carried away. (Unless you are a sh!t hot rider who jumps everything in sight anyway.)

The main thing is - have fun!!!!
