i should think they think a stiffer front wheel, i hate radial spoke patterns, as i had some road wheel done this way back in the early 90's , all i did was break them, so never again, its not too bad up front though, abit too rigid i think,

Its okay for the front to be done like this but a rear wheel needs the spokes crossed due to the extra forces being exerted due to the freewheel being turned which would cause the spokes to twist and bend!!!

Joe I think they built it for Graves and are not jumping on any bandwagon, not heard if they will make them available yet?

It's probably a very nicely made frame, but nothing that special.  To be honest, I would expect something much nicer from Yeti.  That just looks like a cross between an Intense Sabot and a Haro.

I'm not sure Yeti will be jumping on the BMX bandwagon though Joe, as Graves rode for them already on MTB, so I think this is just a custom frame for him to ride at the Olympics rather than Yeti going into full on production.

 did yeti make him a frame before or was he riding an actual bmx frame?

i'm halfway to saying "fair play then" but it still smells a bit whiffy, 
its still the thin end of the wedge,
imagine this for a second....

the start gate is lined up for the very first olympic bmx finals, the whole thing is televised worldwide......
every bike on the gate has a big fook off mountainbike company logo on the downtube....

as a bmxer wouldnt you be a little gutted?

all the years of some companies supporting and building bmx frames and the first race is won by some guy riding a mountainbike frame just because the company sponsors him for "other sports" and chucks him a few bob,

what next?
the "honda pro xxl olympic special edition"
the "nike swoosh exotic-xl carbon"
the "benson&hedges elite race frame"

extreme but you get my point,
 like i said though, i'm halfway to saying fair play but my corpometer is stick clicking like a geiger counter,

i'd rather see him riding an s&m or a standard, even a gt would be an improvement.

I think Graves was a BMX'er when he was younger, then like a lot of people, switched to mountain bike racing, then decided to try for an Olympic spot.  You could say he sold out on BMX then returned, but I don't really see it that way.  Bike racing is bike racing and you can't blame someone who is good at it for wanting to make a living out of it (beats a 9-5 or working in a factory).  I've no idea what bike Graves was riding before Yeti decided to make him one, but if I was an MTB company and one of my riders decided to try for an Olympic, hell yeah, I would make him a custom frame.

As for Specialized, yep, they jumped on the bandwagon in the mid-90s, but I think they paid their dues by sponsoring some good riders Mike Hajek, Brandon Meadows, TJ Lavin, Alan Cooke, Nate Berkheimer, etc.  And they didn't pull out as soon as the income dried up like Trek, Gary Fisher, Bontrager, Marin, Kona and all those other MTB companies who just came in to rape the scene, make money and then fck off.  Spesh have scaled down their BMX range and team over recent years, but they stayed in the whole hog for a lot longer than the other MTB companies and I think they did more good for BMX than bad.

I think the Olympics podium will be dominated by Free Agent and Redline.  Those guys seem to have selected riders well in terms of getting max exposure at the games.

Gotta say, I'm with Joe on this one.  A little paranoid maybe, but I totally see his point. Unfortunately, it will be a big corporate affair and we will see a lot of firms involved that we just don't see have really kinda earned their spot on the gate in our eyes.

as long as they sponsor surly thats a good thing, and if they earn a bit of dosh out of it, well thats for them what it all about  it keeps the bmx fire burning    we dont wont to go back to the bmx is dead ages, keep the sponsors coming,
