Front wheel spindle problems.
« on: July 10, 2008, 08:57 PM »
I've just gone to put a front wheel in to a set of LG's and they wont go in. The spindle is 10mm as is the gap in the drop outs.

I've been advised that the spindle needs some flat bits filed in to them. I know for fact that on my spare Arayas the spindles have flat bits in them but on these Sumos the spindle is fully round.
What is the best way to do this, is it just a case of putting the wheel in a vice and slowly filing away or can new 10mm spindles be bought as the hubs need stripping anyway for a re-grease.
One build a year, the only way to get it right. No rushing involved.

sorry mate i thought someone would've by now!

what i did mith mine was to take the old axle out and change the barings and re-grease.....then put it all back together and then filed down two small flat spots on each side so they slipped into the forks......making sure not to go too deep on the axles though  :daumenhoch:

i'm not sure the flattened axles are easy to get hold of new??

cool there you go mate.........as for my filing effecting the thread?  well i only filed where the forks would fit over the axle, so the axle nut didn't go over that section  :daumenhoch:
