Kelvingrove Skatepark 1983
« on: July 02, 2008, 12:02 AM »
Aileen found this in the Evening Times (Glasgow paper) recently - thought I'd share.

What bikes can you see, 'cos I'm sure there's a Gen 1 in there.....

and here's the write up to go with it...

Really? Wow - it's all filled in now (concrete rimmed flowerbeds!), but mostly still there apart from the halfpipe which got demolished a good few years ago after folk tried to dig it out!
Do you know what bit this dude is riding? It looks like the back of one of the bowls, rather than a planned part of the park.
My mate Stevie - oldschoolrider - went there early eighties too. It was filled in by the time I got to see it leaving just the skate rink which is where I rode for years 'til they built the new park on the site. Now I ride that!

On that second pic, you can see them building the new park on the right...
I wonder if the old b&w pic was someone riding the back of a bowl, or was that in the halfpipe? Way undervert if it was!

Not too sure gary, but if my memory serves me right their was 2 runs the "Kamakazi" and the "Bazooka" one went left and the other went right and i think that is what is now the flower beds. All i really remember is my green skinny plastic sk8 board and falling on my ass alot......... thank god for bmx.
