Bars - How high can you go!
« on: July 11, 2008, 10:09 AM »
Looking at changing my bars for a slightly higher set - currently mine have a 7" rise (I think) and are 26" wide. I'm looking for the same width but higher as I feel slightly too bent over when on the bike.

How high can you go with Bars? Finding out on the web is near impossible - seen some 8" bars but that is all. By the way how do you measure bars? Mine may not be 7" but measured from middle of bottom tube to middle of the grip it is 7".

Anyone got some recommendations on good quality bars which don't cost the earth?

Cheers.

There are a few bars that are a little over 8", but 8 is the norm for big bars. I dont think any go to 9. If you want more height then look at your stem/stem spacers. A top load stem with a few spacers under it can make bars an inch or so higher than a slammed front loader.

Check this thread for bar size measuring:

Slams are great. 8" x 28". Perfect. S&M also do lighter versions of the same thing (Slam XLT).

You could get some "Grand Slams". They are 8.25" x 29", but I think you have to be 14, very skinny and wear tight jeans to use them  ;D

I dont like big bars, Im using BSD Variety bars. They also do some Slam style biggies that are very light. A great UK (and Rad member) company too  :daumenhoch:

Check out BSD bars on:

i've just stuck a load of spacers under the stem rather than on top of it.

Proper Proclaimer Bars are 8"

I've got a set of Odyssey Lumberjack Bars which have an 8.25" rise.

If your stems a front loader try turning it upside down to give an extra half inch or so?

Sounds daft but i know a couple of peeps that have done it to give a bit of rise.... ooerr...  :D
