Reflex f/f's - £129
« on: June 26, 2008, 04:53 PM »
Just reading a few BMX Actions that Poolysheriff has sent me (cheers again  :daumenhoch:) and I cant believe my eyes.  Ive heard about this but never seen it...till today.

Advert for Jaro BMX shop in Blackpool circa January 1985.

Frame and fork sets

Curtis Expert or Pro.....................................£99.95
Skyway T/A..................................................£169.95
Firebird Freestyler.........................................£74
Rebel Freestyler (white or chrome)..............£74.95
The new Rebel Freestyler.......................£115
Aero Reflex..................................................£129.00

When you look at what NOS examples of each of the above go for now (T/A - £500+, Firebird Freestyler - £250+, Curtis - £250+), then the good old Aero Reflex weighin in at £20+...lol

Just shows it must have been a fairly good frame to justify the cost (or maybe thats why there are so many left - cos nobody bought one BITD?)

And by the way, if the Rebel Freestyler (white or chrome) is the frame in my signature, then which of the other Rebel Freestyle frames is the 'new Rebel Freestyler', and did it justify the extra £40?

I thought the same when I came across a similar advert a while back...

...the thing is, I don't remember anyone actually owning a reflex round my way as a kid, don't recall anyone riding one as a Pro, they only seemed to exist in magazine adverts...

...so maybe you are right - £130 was a tad too rich for GT copy in the mid 80s and that's now why you can have one for a price of a trip to the cinema.

Shame the same thing didn't happen to Trickstars...

i used to look at the firebird adds and really like them, the cheapness of them put me off ever wanting one tho, i think if they upped the price of them BITD then they probs would have sold a shitlaod more and commanded the price they are gettin now years ago, its took a while for them to be fully appreciated i reckon, a perfect little frameset :daumenhoch:

I agree, they always seemed 'too' cheap to be genuinely any good.

Ive noticed that by March 1986, Aero Reflex's were already dropping in price.  Down to £99, or painted for £109.

I think the main reason so many are around now if they were over priced BITD.  None of this warehouse full of spiders malarky.  There may have been a warehouse full, but thats only cos no-one could sell em.

Another shocker in March 1986.  T/A's selling for £129 while Streetbeats are £189.

i think lots of us had dp because of the price GLYN LEWIS helped,if you had more cash went for frames from the us like haro and gt helped again eddie n bob.after getting my aero reflex for £17 i went looking for reg price in action bike and found £130 and £120,between £46 - £56 more than the dp a good chunk towards a pair of skyways.
