I just met this old chap selling bikes at a car boot sale. His name was Graham Dyson,
and he told me some very surprising tales about a history in BMX.
This actually the second time I met him, and I just think hes just some regular old geezer with a bike stand.
(a nice chap at that, as he sold me some good stuff)
I was just chatting to him about bikes in general, as he talks enthusiastically about all sorts of bike related stuff.
Then he just mentions being into BMX in the late 70's ,
I carry on the conversation down this route, and youll never guess what.
The man has raced himself in the early days riding cruisers.
And then setup a race team called FAZE 7.
He said he hadnt thought about all this stuff since back then, and got all cheerful as all the memories came back.
He was telling me about races, with Tim March, and the Ruffels, he had no idea the names were still remembered by anyone.
He told me about a kid called, James Carter who used to ride real fast & edgy sliding about. He said he was explosive and way faster than Andy Ruffel but he used to come off a lot.
He dropped a few other names, (I forget!) and he tried to remember all the bikes his team used to ride, I helped him remember with hints. Redline, Huffy, GT, Mongoose etc they were all there.
He was really surprised anyone was still into this kind of thing
After a long chat, left him all cheerful and nostalgic.
