I've been looking through alot of pics from the show while ploughing through photobucket and i have to say, apart from a select few, most of them look like theyve been thrown together with just random spare parts..

Then you have Mr Millionaire Juan winning the show. Fair play to the minted Geezer. Wonder if any of his builds saw Autosol. Doubt it.

Great.

Give me RAD anyday over that scene.   :daumenhoch:

from what i gather the VDC was a "Survivor" and pretty much any VDC is special.Even though they're not my thing,i raced from end 82-6 virtually and i never saw ONE of them,so thats probably more testament to their rarity i guess. I love looking at a well thought out NOS build, who doesnt, but a great condition "survivor" in my eyes means so much more.

People like Juan Mattos and John De Bruin who seem to have endless supply of $$$ for building their show winning bikes may get a pat on the back and all the smiles face to face, but amongst alot of people really they think they're just a bunch of minted tw*ts. Reading posts on the U.S. sites from a fair few people who know alot more than i do and are an integral part of that scene seem to confirm this....

Thats why i love RAD so much, the worst squabble/back bite/bitch fight i've seen is when someone sold something somebody else thought they had "first dib dobs" on!  :2funny:

I'd just like to say i have nothing against minted tw*ts who buy show winning bikes,i'm sure they are really nice blokes in real life  ;)

but the vdc is badly built..survivor or not ???

no savers or washers..thats not authentic, thats just lazy and damaging to a valuable investment...

i like survivors..to look at..but i like to own blingers....each to there own..

and i'm probably a twat as well :daumenhoch:

being minted apparently makes you one in some peoples eyes ::)

If that VDC of Subwaxs is a Survivor why does it appear to be built with NOS parts, not really a survivor then?

Can't see the photobucket pics...., but did Subwax fly over to Rockford, with bikes etc? I know he isn't too popular on this site, but going all the way to Rockford just to show a bike !   :crazy2:

I've been told about these posts sluring me, and its cool, but this one needs me to ask a question:

Can you please exlpain to me why you think I am brown nosing the US guys about this "repop" thing? I have no idea what you are talking about.

You know, I spoke to Juan about Biagio, and he had nothing but good to say about him, regardless of what had happened previously. Why would I go over there and cause a load of crap for people - "Radsters" - I know nothing about.

I've been asked by a few of the old school Rad guys to come to MK - I hope they can now see why I wont bother. I really cant believe I am getting slagged off for attending a bike show, just like all of you guys do.

And the VDC was original - no NOS parts. i didnt go there to win anything, just to take part. I really enjoyed it. I hope MK is as good for you guys as Rockford was for me.

Oh Dear. Hey Mr Sub, i didnt mean for this topic to end up like this.It was a light hearted look at some randon pics of bulging tires, not wander off into personal jibes.

Thats not what i'm about,or what i'm here for. All this re-pop debacle happened it seems long before i got "back into the scene" so i dont know anything about that situation or the people involved..

I'm hoping for my first "MK" this year and i'm looking forward to meeting alot of the guys here i've either bought from/sold to/chatted with/had help in tech & resto from etc etc,so i wouldnt want to arrive knowing there was any animosity.

Mods/Admin.I'd be happy if this topic was deleted.I'd rather be reading about more important things like how Tony is recovering,or how Billy BMX' Career is comin on leaps and bounds...

...it's a shame you won't be going to MK this year, I'm pretty sure a number of people would have liked to see a few choice builds from your Redline collection.

I read something yesterday about Rockford and thought 'here we go!'. People are gonna coment on things that they have seen in the pics, or read on Vintage without actually being there. Whatever.

I for one wanted to go to Rockford for the past 2/3 years but havent been able to do it due to commitments at home. Does that make me a brown noser?

Yeah some of our American friends come onto this site and very welcome they are to but its not a case of us and them. Dont go calling the US bikes making out we are sooooo special. FFS we have had show winners that dont have chains on! and every show has something that 'isnt quite rite' in at least 1 persons eyes because at the end of the day we all do it differently.

It pi55es me of when the online heros of Rad bang on about how 'great we are' and 'how great this site is'. Well its only any good by the input that is put in and the atmosphere that is created. This is regardless of the type of bikes you build, how you would build them, geography etc etc. I read both Vintagebmx.com and OSBMX.com regularly and post every now and then. I dont know many people on either site but have never recieved any grief from being there, only ever had compliments, constructive critisism and help with answers to my questions.

Just for the record..... Neil (Subwax) and I have had crossed swords on more than one occasion! Maybe we dont see eye to eye on somethings, so what! I'm here for the OS BMX scene, BMX racing has been a huge part of my life for 25 years solid. Never been away and it does pi55 me off when this shit happens. If, after MK08 we start reading threads online about this and that being wrong with bikes over here the usual suspects will be the first to complain and be offended.

If you wanna bitch about other people, probably people you have never had dealings with (good or bad) keep it to yourselves cos I for one dont come on here for the ever increasing bad atmosphere.

What a load of melodramatic bollocks.

no one slagged subwax off at all...

brandy truffle intimated that some people, both sides of the pond, slag off rich collectors,  in my opinion they are jealous. of the bikes and the success of the owners.

any negative comments of mine were directed towards brandy truffle, with regards to the above, but were not done in an aggressive manner...as his points came out directly after i put up my pics of my VDC, and seemed to be defending subwax ( like he needs it ???). Like wealthy collectors are spoliing it somehow ???

when i started buying stuff, it was suggested by a very prominant member of this site that i had 'all the gear, and no idea'

my how i laughed....that individual, sat there, judging me through the medium of bmx..for fooks sake!!!!

Subwax's vdc could have been put together better, in my opinion.

before everyone starts piping up about what happened with subwax historically, i think they should read the thread again and consider the above points..including Subwax!

Subwax going to rockford ? Cool..i will be going next year, if i get the chance...

and he should be coming to Mk this year, and for those that have issues with him, dont speak to him....more people are interested in his collection than not..by a significant margin.

dont forget your VDC dude :daumenhoch:

Now JT - I believe I was the "all the gear - no idea" person - its a nickname I am particularly fond of.

I built 7 bikes on Friday morning before setting off to Rockford, so you're right about the VDC not being perfect - in fairness, it wasnt meant to be. It was pretty much exactly how I bought it ages ago. For me, it was just taking bikes there and being part of the whole thing that made the weekend so memorable.

You want to go next year? Mate, I cannot recommend it enough. The people there are so friendly and welcoming. Its so well organised too. There should be more people making the trip over there. It was only Waza and I that were not US guys.

I didnt take any offence JT. That opinion about the so called "minted" collectors was not my own, just a vibe i picked up from reading topics both here and abroad, most recently regarding the Rockford event.

Some people wanna spend 300+ quid on ESP stems,  3-40 quid on Hutch plastic grips. Great. I hope it makes them happy. I'm lucky that when i stopped racing in 1986 all my bikes and spares were bin bagged up at my parents house and only unearthed last summer when my mum moved to a bungalow and gave me an ultimatum - take it or i'll bin it.

I'm a big fan of JT's bikes, his sense of humour and his knoledge on stuff here.Loved the Robinson, the VDC,the Kuwi...

Majority of my "disposable income" gets spent on the 2 loves of my life. My kids....and my Cars. (fooks sake dont tell the missus she's been missed out)  ;D  I love rummageing around both here, ebay and my BITD bin bag collection for parts to build my bikes, having found RAD last Oct when initially i was just looking for a place to sell all my stuff, found a load of like minded bike nuts and decided to stay  :daumenhoch:

I dont know ANYBODY here personally, but i'm hoping to change that come MK. For the record that includes the Subwax guy,as i sent him a PM saying i hope he could make it. Some people may remember when i was looking for info on my Redline build his name cropped up as someone "who knew their Redlines"  but i had no means of contacting him.

JT,i wasnt defending Subwax VDC, when i put the pic up of the VDC i didnt even know whos it was until i read a comment further down - but after you posted your "Blinger" i thought i should mention that it (his) was supposed to be built as a "survivor"

Anyway, this topics gone way off the intended. I hope to meet you all,Subwax included at my first MK this year.  :daumenhoch:
