Driving to MK this Sunday......
« on: July 04, 2008, 01:32 PM »
Just a quick heads up for those of you driving to MK for the Inter Regional this sunday....

The British GP (yawn  ???) will also be taking place and 120,00 no-marks will be blocking the M1 on their way to waste £200+ each. :idiot2:

Been looking at the map and it looks like being a total nightmare.  Silverstone is J15a and MK is Junction 14

Im thinking of taking the A1 up to bedford and then coming across????

if anyone has any better routes let me know....

Cheers
Crooch

i was going to say that although it'll be busy.......4 lanes of the M1 will be better than 2 lanes of the A1 me thinks??

shame there's no pre reg but i'm sure most of the GP lot will be there well early to take in the atmosphere and early races (note the word races rather than boring presession of F1)  ;)

I seem to recall that we had a clash with Silverstone last year and at that time there were the road-widening roadworks to contend with too.  Are they finished yet??  Wasn't a problem that I can remember as long as you give yourself an extra few minutes for the journey to allow for numbnuts in Focus's and Corsa's to thrash past without their seatbelts on and carving through the traffic!!  Note to self; leave about 8 from Bexleyheath.  Humps

Silverstone traffic is super early normaly if you aint there by 10 you wont see the race, trust me i've done it a fair few times. On corp hospitality it must be said, wouldn't part with my own cash for it!

Junc 13 is only 10 mins from track.

Radical route could be junc 9 and come up the A5

A4146 all the way

A40 A413 A418  take the new stoke hammond bypass from aylesbury.

I think best thing to do is just set off 30/45 minutes earlier than normal rather than try to find alternative routes.

If you get there early, then that's more track time.  I aim to leave Surrey around 0800, which I hope will get me to MK before 1000.

As Humps said, I don't remember there being too many hassles getting to MK last year, but it was a nightmare getting home (left about 1700 and didn't get home until after 2000).

Those roadworks near Luton are bad too, or they were last time I was up there. Come morning start early as Mr Miyagi said.
