1990 Haro Sport Bash Guard Model advice
« on: June 01, 2008, 07:18 AM »
hi folks, thinking of getting one of these in lime green, like the picture below.

can you mid school experts answer me some questions:

1. would I be right in calling this "mid school"
2. Also any idea how much i should pay for a NOS frame and forks, I really like it but have no idea what it should cost.
3.Thinking of kitting it out with kneesavers 2's, 48's (can you get 48's? still? NOS?) ody cranks, headset, gyro, bb, ACS boa brakes and ACs levers
oddy layback, ruption chain wheel if i can get one, haro seat and what ever grips and tyres I can find. This is the stuff I want on it, but is there anything in that list that is just plain wrong?

any help appreciated.

kind regards Joe

bashguard sports arent quite mid school they were made in 90 to 92  i think so sort of old/mid school

frame and forks id pay around £200-£250

depending on how much you want to spend  id personally  have a fusion chainring, haro crank, super pros, comp pool/haro tyres, mushroom grips, beartrap headset, shimano dx pedals

Nice bike, though not as tough as they should've been, and hence pretty rare.

Kneesaver 2s will be a bit late for an early nineties bike, if you want to be era-correct go for regular kneesavers. A DK-style Fusion stem would also be a good fit, and not too expensive for a NOS one right now

Just Mid school (!) and go with the suggestions above, they sound about right.

Shiners were knocking those frame sets out for £145ish last year, they may still have some left over.

They are a good frame set, my old one was great :daumenhoch:

cheers for the advice guys.

standard kneesavers and haro tyre it is.  :daumenhoch:

and I'll be looking out for a dk style fusion stem.

Just did a bit of research for you.

As far as I can make out, bashguard Sports came out late 1990/early '91....

This is from the May '91 Bmx Plus buyers guide...

Hope  this helps - if I come across anything else I'll post it up here.

Hoffman was killing at least one of those frames a day when filming Head First, which was out in 90/91.

ask SEbmxer, he might be able to help you get one.

Ruption chainwheel, i wouldn't bother with that, you could try to find a Fusion Chainwheel.

Make sure you dont use a Left hand Drive rear wheel! That would mess everything up ;D

no they're not NOS but they've only got grime on them, nothing bad.......they're the ones that screw on your axles instead of wheel nuts

interesting to read this now .....
i wonder if the guy found his lime 90 sport.
Of course today we know how rare there are as only 100 were made in lime and 100 in black and were not even in the catalouge. They were produced as testers .
I guess info back then was not around as it was today .
Based in Exeter, Devon and London's West End but now living and working in Essex

This an old thread

Just been looking at the 91 catalogue and there is a pic of a black sport in there, its a small pic but the colour isn't shown in the spec list

Had a friend who was sponsored by Shiners/Pete Hawkins in 91/92 and he had a lime green sport
