he does know Martin, so that would be him.

Just realised I was thinking of totally the wrong person  ???

I remembered why I know Scott tho, he was a friend of one of my ex's. IIRC he was into the VW Golf scene at the time, that sound right?

yeah that would be him, total petrol head, he did actually say he couldnt recall you.... ;)

Not surprised, think I only met him once or twice. He's more likely to remember the car I had at the time, an Orange RS Turbo (still got it actually, but thats another story lol)

Dgh,  start a new thread, e.g 'Cardiff/South Wales Old School Riders'

It might catch more readers than being stuck in here!  :daumenhoch:

New to the forum - I was wondering if you can tell me of a contact in the Midlands - I am in Leicester - I have seen the event at Bunneys in early Oct. I have not raced there for over 20 + years

I may have asked this already, but if so I cannot find my post (or any reply to it) ::)

Given the difficulty finding an OS legal bike (and also for nostalgic reasons) have been thinking of acquiring one of the 25th anniversary Super Tuff Burners. Although not old, they would seem to me to be within the spirit of OS. Anyone know whether the headsets are OS compliant?

You in the same boat as most of us!!

Brain still think its 15 and body is well past knackered, its fooked!!  :LolLolLolLol:

Join your local club!  :daumenhoch:

If you've got a NS bike then ride that until your fitness and skill levels return.  They are nicer to ride, have more room and are less sketchy.

Make sure your well padded and wear a helmet and take it easy.

Dont attempt the doubles after the first 10 minutes on the track................

.............wait at least half an hour!!!  :LolLolLolLol:

:LolLolLolLol: At 6ft tall the bike really seems tiny, Just put some NS bars on 28" width 8" rise I think, but feel too low? What does everyone else use?  :daumenhoch: Is Warrington track still open?  :daumenhoch:

Thats the trouble with OS bikes and the long absence.

They dont feel as good as they used to.

A lot of OS racers go for bikes with a 20.5" or more TT so that they fit the ride.

There are quite a few OS Legal F+F's around that are more suitable for a 6ft'er.

I'm around 5'10" and a 20.5" TT suits me fine.

If you've only just got back on a BMX then its going to feel weird anyway.

Give it time and build your confidence and skill level up!!  :daumenhoch:

Ok - here's a question for you......

I've got an old number plate and I'm assuming you need to have one to race (do you need one?), but how does the numbering work ?

Do you just pick a number you like and use it ? or if not, how do you get a race number ?

Pick any number you want that isn't being used.

If you turn up with the same number on your plate as another rider then they would probably alter your plate with some sticky back plastic or empty bog rolls like blue peter to either alter your number or add an X or something (I'm only guessing because I have never seen this situation come up with the Northern Monkey's and I haven't raced that long).

Also If you turn up without a plate then they will provide you with one and some string to attach it to your bars (at least they do oop north).  So if you ain't got one then don't worry.  If they don't have spare plates then someone will have a paper plate or some cardboard and a pen for that authentic early 70's look!!  :daumenhoch:

Don't choose 1 for your number plate Unless :-

A.  Your really good and plan on beating everyone your first time out.

B.  You won the last series

C.  Your balls are so big that you can take the flak you will recieve when you trundle around the track at 5 miles an hour due to not riding a bike for the last 30 years

Have fun!!  :daumenhoch:

Thanks for the details - I will not be picking number 1, as I don't expect to be any good first time out, I haven't won anything on a BMX bike since the 1980's, and my balls are not of the required size to take the flak !

And above all, I'm only going to be doing it for fun when I take my son to race, so I don't have any intention of taking it that seriously (unless, of course, Faze7-Dave decides to race, and then I'll need to use my elbows !).

I was thinking of 84, so hopefully that won't be a problem.

What region will you be racing in?

I'm based in North London, so I'll give the Southern Region a go. I hope to get to the Dagenham race on 7th Dec but the Quad won't be ready for then (so I'll be there watching my son racing). Maybe the bike will be ready for the next round......

Is the number 84 available for that region ?
