Talk to me about 24" Cruisers.

What is the intended purpose of 24" BMX's (if there is one)?

Any history as to their origins would be greatly appreciated too.

Cheers

from what ive read and can remember in a nutshell

way back in bmx heyday it was only a sport for kids up to their early 20s , cruisers were brought along for the riders getting older who wanted to carry on riding

nowadays 20" bmx has dcent length toptubes and can support a rider over 15 stone , so many stick with the 20"

but a cruiser rules on some nice technical singletrack  ;)

The first "BMX" Cruisers (rather than Beach cruisers) were in both 24" and 26" (eg, SEs 26" OM flyer).
This was all waaaaaay before geared, canti braked "MTB"s were thought of.

Thanks perry and S&MAlex, it is now all starting to make sense!

I recently purchased one from ebay, an impulse buy (or maybe an alcohol fueled one) and am loving it, know what you mean about the singletrack, had a good blast today on the now dry trails and it felt good (although not much front end stopping power, perhaps a V brake is in order).

lets have some pics then

you could have a disc mount welded on , kinda a precise process so seek out a framebuilder , use a mtb disc hub and a cheap hope from the bay  :)

ive seen a few with suspension forks but being made for 26" wheels they screw the sharp geometry a bit

but ive also seen suspension forks shortened in travel , which is what im considering doing so i can use mine in a bit of 4x racing ( they dont allow cruisers , but some sus forks make it a mtb  :D )

for the time being hang off the rear and enjoy arse out slides  8)

If you are wondering why you haven't heard of a Perv race bike before well, that's because this isn't a race bike. The Perv Lewd 24 is a cruiser street bike that comes standard with steel pegs and a gyro, for the purpose of this review they have been removed. I have to admit, it's my first time I have ever ridden a street bike. When I started riding BMX bikes there wasn't any such thing, BMX bikes were all race bikes. Just some were more raceable than others.
