did dirt skirts realy ever work

i remember dirt,water and mud use to collect on the top and run into the bearings, causing the bottom bearings to crunch.
we use to cut up old inner tubes and place these over the bottom cup, but you eventualy got the chrome or paint on the top of your forks damaged.
of course this was before seaed bearings were around, making sound like 1826 arernt i
we also cleaned our frames with grease to stop rust forming, but then all the shit and dust would stick to it, making cleaning hard, it probably was 1826

I think it worked to a point, certainly kept the dirt/dust to a minimum but that might be rose tinted glasses and a poor memory

should have been called the rain collecter, as rain just sat on top, that had been thrown up off the front wheel

 that reminds me, remember being caught out in a monsoon when you are about 10 miles from home, and you had no choice but to go for it, no ringing papa or mama for a collection servise, was this bmx thing ALL good?

I'd say they worked as a sharp edged weapon! I remember slicing my knee open a treat on one bitd took it straight off after that & beat the mofo to death with BIG hammer - justice...

My bikes were all covered in crap. The only time i took them apart was when they broke. Still do tbh
