Racing license for OSS cost??????
« on: April 28, 2008, 11:48 AM »
We were informed by the nice lady who takes yer money at the races at Coppul that the old schoolers are going to have to have a license to race as the racing is part of the regionals now rather than an add on. i was also informed that we all needed a silver license to cover us, been on the britishcycling website, and from what i understand (could be wrong, thats why im postin this) that membership of britishcycling is £32 and the silver license is £32 on top. is this right? Advice please :)

BC don't sanction old school at all for regionals (Unless they have changed their minds!) So you shouldn't really need a license at all.

I am racing 40+ at regionals - and even for that a Bronze membership is enough. If I decide to go to the brits I can upgrade to silver for that. I know in our region (BMX South) we don't need a license for Old School at all.

You should be able to get a free bronze menbership, and a temp racing license should cover everything you need. (Unless you're doing nationals - but I don't think there's OS at nationals???)

I spoke with Roger Wilbraham at British Cycling - he's a good enough fella, and will steer you in the right direction.

He was the one that told me the Old School races weren't anything to do with British Cycling.

But hey - BC have been know to change their minds, and if they have maybe we'll have a "proper" old school class at the brits.

And that would be fantastic news!

I think it cost me £66 for silver option.

I paid for mine last week.

But I think you can go through a club and get it cheaper for the 1st year.

Plus silver is only for doing nationals.

I went the whole hog and got the silver.

Fook it, £66 aint going to bankrupt me!!

cheers dudes, will look into it further, £33 a year for racin aint too bad but the double whammy of membership also kinda dampens things a bit.

contacted BCF and to race in the oldschool series piggy backing the regionals you only need a bronze license and if your already a member of a bmx club you don't need to join theirs(saving £32 fee), and......if your a member of a club, to get your bronze license is FREE at the mo (saving another £32) :4_17_5:

cheers for ya help dudes, and hope this helps the rest of yez :daumenhoch:

Fook it!!

If were all members and were all racing then they will have to take notice.

I've only been to a couple of meets and the OS Riders outnumber most of the other groups.

If we can gather enough interests then at the next olympics they'll be an OS Section.

I might be shite but I want to be on TV to make my mother proud and to show her I've made something of my life!!!!    :LolLolLolLol:

I live at least 40-45 minutes from the nearest track so I'm going independant.

You're probably looking at about a tenner to join a club.

Feel free to join BADBMX, it doesn't have to be your closest club ;)

I was going to join Preston but it looked easier to just pay my money.

If Preston's website had a Join Up by Paypal button I would have pressed it.

I have been hanging on for Manchester to be finished, although there is a membership form already available from their website. It is £10 for adults and £15 for families. I have sent the treasurer an email asking whether membership is a) available now and b) whether it carries bronze status with it. If not, I guess I will need to bring an eye patch and a parrot on Sunday and hand over some pieces of eight.

BC don't actually check that you are a member of a club.

You just select the club when signing up.

Don't tell anyone I told you that though..................
