Wipe out at Coppull race track
« on: April 26, 2008, 05:45 PM »
Ok, so my brother and I headed down to Coppull (my brother lives round the corner) to take my Robinson for a spin round the track (first time ive been on a bmx for 20 years).

Problem was i'd just watched united in the pub and had a couple (four) pints.  Not great preperation...

Anyway, I was feeling confident as I lined up at gate, at the top of whats a quite steep first drop.  Without even checking the track, and wearing no protection what so ever, I head off pedalling at full pelt down off the start line.

As I hit the first mini bump the bike twitches and I start to lose it, and I hIt the second larger hump very front heavy and theres no way back.  Over the bars I go, resulting in damage to me, but luckily none to the bike.

I am now feeling rather sorry for myself, tending my badly scuffed belly and elbows and the massive gash in my leg.  Mind you could have been much worse.

Anyway, thats me done with BMX (riding not collecting).  Big respect to all riders who make it look relatively easy... I now know it isnt.

Got a few pics that I will post up later.  Unfortunately no footage of the actaul incident itself.

couldnt stop laughing, though you probably dont realise it, like me, you have to practice again to bring your skill back, although the skill seems to be there at first, almost like starting all over again :2funny:
R.I.P  O.M. Far short of the finish line...

Coppull's far scarier than Preston.

Get ya self down.  It'll be a blast and bring ya bro' with you!!

We've got some Scottish invaders coming down.

We should have 3 gates.

Don't give up riding yet.

Baby steps mate!!

I'm taking it easy.

Wait till the honey's with skimpy tops n bottoms turn up later in the season.

Then I'll be going for it, trying to impress and all that!!!  :daumenhoch:

That's when I'll be goin for it.

Dude I did something very similar on my first visit to Bournemouth when I started riding again. There's a nasty kicker on the first straight and in my inexperience and nievaty (sp) I went at it fast, but witout the skill to take the jump. I was too slow to have a chance of clearing the doubles, but too fast to keep it on the ground, and flew straight into the back of the second bump. Que superman over the bars. Scraped stomach and a massive swelling on my knee. Was an impressive crash, but was miffed when I got upstaged by Tim March's girfriend who did the same but landed on her face. Her stiches won.

Take little steps with less beer. Drinking is considered acceptable practice in OS racing, but is normally reserved for the night before. Don't give up yet, but just be a bit more prepared.

I had too many incidents as youngster on bikes and skateboards... to ever consider racing. I used to think I was invisible but it didn't prove the case. Two broken arms & smashing my teeth up twice was enough to make me sensible now.  :LolLolLolLol:

Having said that I wouldn't let your first ride put you off just yet, I guess a little more prep is in order, & wear the correct safety gear.

:) Sounds like you got away lightly-Coppull bites back! Don`t be too hasty on quitting. You`ll soon be itching to get back on the bike.If we all stopped riding when we took a slam,RAD would be empty.Give it a week, get a lid & gloves/pads & get back out there!

Lol, bit sore and achey this morning, and the arms have scabbed over and look much worse that they do it that pic.  What you can really see in the pic above is that most of the top layer of skin was removed along with the cuts.

Feel like ive gone 10 rounds with Mike Tyson...

But... it has whetted my appetite for doing it properly.  The Robinson would make a great OSS race bike... :)
