Norwich flyers track RIP
« on: April 28, 2008, 06:47 PM »
Alright dont panic, I dont mean the new track.

As it was a nice sunny weekend I thought I would go and investigate if the old Norwich flyers track was still there.

I pulled up to the entrance to the site and found that it was almost as i remember, followed the dirt track to where it was situated
and was gutted to find that it is all gone!

This is the old start hill, I took my shots from around this point.

This shot is from the start hill looking towards the finish line area

The flat straight area at the bottom right of the pick is what I think all remains of the start straight.

Soon to be the foundations of a large housing estate

The early days.

R.I.P.

Was a sad day when they held the last meeting there.  I raced a Regional there on my cruiser and it was the first time I jumped but realised midair that landing isn't quite so easy!!  My shoulder hurt for months afterwards!!  I have some pics somewhere from that last ever meeting and maybe put them up if there's interest.  Humps

Sure thing, post em up.
I last rode it in about 91 or 92. The last race i did was in 89.
This was the first time i'd been back since.
I only lived about half a mile away for about two years aswell.

Nice one Goth, great pics.

I just cant get on with the new track, too many rhythm sections for my liking.

I've already trashed one rimhttp://:buck2:

A few pics from the last ever meeting on 5th September
Looking towards the Start Hill - note the inscription sprayed on it

Remember the Thunderboxes??

Yes, the new track at Norwich is a right lung buster and pretty tech.

I've only raced there once a couple of years ago, so it would be good to go back and try again now I'm a bit fitter and my skills have improved a bit too.

Tim's speech at the opening of the new track was pure emotion.  I'll remember that day for a long time.
