I have just polished up my GEN 1 as i have got a day off and i am bored.  Also GEN 1's are all the talk on here today so i thought i would treat mine to a polish up.

I have never used Brasso before and have heard people saying it is really good.

Well i can honestly say it is great. Brings the chrome up nice. Dont know if you could use it on a frame that has never gone through the oxalic/coke and then autosol process first but i would recommend it highly for getting the chrome to gleam nice.  NOT SURE IF IT TAKES SMALL SCRATCHES OUT? CANT REALLY TELL.

However.....well impressed.

The chrome on my GEN 1 is 25 years old i have you know! Its gonna have a few minor little scratches on it! None of that old rechromed  crap!

I heard a rumour that a well known frame builder in the SouthWest was making fantastic and indistinguishable copies of a lot of top make frame and forks bitd - snides are not a new thing  .

I've real ones and  extremely good snide ones

if you buy a rusty one you will know its not a snide, as it will take years to get rusty, unless the snide makers know how to put rust on

No ,
all the snides were made at the same time as the genuine Gen 1's

So they could be just as rusty

around 3 different companies produced copies of the Gen 1

A quick tip with brasso - drop a couple of loose bearings in the can & shake well before & regularly during use, it helps mix the 'good stuff' that settles at the bottom of the tin.

and remember that brasso takes off the chrome , thats how it works by removing layers of the surface metal you are polishing

go too mad and your down to nickel, best i have used is wonder chrome , it removes dirt without taking the chrome off
