Stu thomsen used some at a certain time.
They were supposed to give pedaling power all over the crank revolution, especially in the highest point.

Well, this theory didn't last too long it seems  :-\

Not even sure someone actually owns some even in the States, never seen any pic neither...

It makes you wonder how many sets were produced ?? .

I think they are prototype cranks, Dennis may be able to shed light on them.

All them parts do nothing for me apart from the tuffs.  :-\

Whats the chances of someone in the UK having those parts BITD?

I will be honest........all i remember SST for was the dirt skirts!

I collect BMX not for the rareity but for the pure fact that all of the bikes i have got i wanted as a kid. I used to drool over Bobs Haro and the old TA advertisements. When i see Subwax buying grips for £200 i wonder why? He must have 8 pairs of them already!

I know i bought a TRM for £500 and i look back now and think......i would never get my money back on that but i have always wanted a TRM and i ended up getting the ultimate one.

I would never spend fortunes on a part if it meant nothing 'personally' to me and a set of hubs dont play my strings.

That's what I was thinking Ron , advertised but never available to the public/superceded prior to release .

I wasnt picking on your hubs mate! :LolLolLolLol:

I have seen things go ridiculously cheap recently and we have all asked...has the bubble burst? Then you see RARE parts going for silly money. Would you have really gone to your local bike shop/importer and got SST hubs for your bike BITD? These parts are only now bought by people like subwax due to the rareity of the item. A GEN 1 is rare but would be bought because, in my eyes, they are one of the most iconic BMX's ever. I  can understand them being iconic, rare and expensive. Does building a bike with SST hubs, the early Redline Cranks that knowone has ever seen and other rare parts make it a good build or make you a great collector? Who knows?

BMX collecting is what tickles your fancy. Lee (Radman) has the best collection. Rare parts all over the place on every build. Hutch beartraps growing out of his ass, but he hasnt got the best bike........... A Gen 1.  WHY?  Cos he doesnt like them. I rate Lee for that. I rate myself for having a NOS TRM. Thats what i want. ;)

You get me bro? You get me? :LolLolLolLol:

 :LolLolLolLol: ( bit about the Gen 1 ) .

Not all those parts are mine , some are .

Some are here for specific builds , you could call them replicas I suppose of certain riders bitd . Other parts I like because of how well they're made etc . You mention Gen 1's , my brother had one of the 1st in the UK & it cracked very quickly too ! lol ( classic early gusset gap ) . He also got a very early TA which was a lot stronger & a very good all round bike regarding freestyle/street & racing .

Horses for courses really , to me the eye is in the detail & that detail appears in components  ;) .

I love seeing all the rare bits, I appreciate them and I understand the need to collect them, they are beautiful and the basis of 'ultimate' builds.

But actually I am with Nick Munners on this one...I will only collect the bits/bikes I remember. Good, honest, everyday BMX.

I did a bit of racing but was crap so gave it up for freestyle - so was never exposed to high-end race gear, which is where most of this rare stuff is categorised...so I don't collect it, because I simply don't remember it.

Don't get me wrong though, I'd still love to own all the lovely trinkets we've seen over the previous posts, but I don't have the passion required to part with that level of cash for those bits.

I agree, Lee Radmans collection is utterly stunning and in terms of rareity and wow factor wipes the floor. Full stop. Standing in the middle of his bike loft is almost a religious experience.

But I also feel that the detailing of Jay's and Baldbmxers collections have the same wow factor due to the little bits n pieces they include on their builds - which to me make them real. Mind you, saying that, they aren't exactly short of uber-rare bits either!

BTW The hardest component I've ever had to source were the Odyssey VPX pedals on my Condor. Ugly as sin, crap, but absolutely necessary for the build.

Biagio has some for £50

Cheers snav, that's the first set I have seen.....but I can't convince myself to spend 50 smackers on effectivley wrapped up sponge with a print, but I suppose rareity commands price, I dunno.

But thanks for the heads up bud, at least I now know they're about :daumenhoch:
