novice question regarding coaster brake

how do they actualy work? what i mean is,say you are riding along and you want to engage the coaster brake,do you kick the metal arm thingy or do you pedal backwards or somthing? can some one explain please?

The arm is to keep the coaster asembley from moving as when you pedal backwards the insides push a set of metal pads outwards to lock on the inside of the hub .

The other thing they do is.... weigh quite a bit
But they're fun once you get used to 'em.

  had one on my acorns.  I took it apart to see how it works and all these metal bits fell to the floor. never did get it working again. had to go back to a freewheel.

Coaster Brakes are cool when you can use them right, Take a bit of getting used to though, BITD a few of my mates had coasters and as Mr Spicoli says great for 540 kickturns and ramp stalls etc.

I Am actually thinking of getting a set of Tuffs with coaster for my new ride but can't decide on colour yet (White, Black or Grey) as I think they all would look good on this :-

I think you should learn to ride the thing before you go spendin' more money on it......heehee!
