Im in talks with the council about restoring a track.....whats the usual material, for filling holes and the like?

Its called dolomite down here Phil and comes in sizes (50mm/25mm/10mm/dust) but phone British Cycling and speak with Roger Wilbraham and he will sort you out

I thought it would be a mixture of various bits, sand and the like......

just asked my father in law who works for rochdale council, and he is aware of dolomite. Apparently its high in magnesium.

Just leave it as it is,the natives will have it coated in fresh dog poo within a week,the inconsiderate cnuts!

its completely unrideable as it is.

Type 1 crushed limestone for filling holes, a coat of concrete finings over the whole track (about 20-30 tonnes), roller the lot until very hard and smooth, water it until damp, NOT WET then 20-30mm thick layer of 20mm to dust dolomite, dampen again, leave to soak in for a bit then roller.
Maintenance is the key after that.

As he said MOT type 1 . with a good roll later ........we buy 100's of tonnes of the stuff each week @£7 per tonne .........I may be able to sort something out for the community if we get the press .........We have to be working in that area though...Where in Rochdale are we talking ? We are currently working on College rd /Dane st ......i do know a few at the council too if you need any numbers

its the bmx track in roch valley, its right next to the town centre, near roch valley way.

ive got a meeting arranged with them.

april is the time when they get the new budget, so i was going to hit them then.

This is why i started the thread, so i could get as much info as possible, to present at the meeting, old pics of etc, and then go on about how it can be a springboard for local riders to the new "world class" track at manchester.

so, to answer your question, I dont know yet, but will do soon.

My father in law works for the council in Rochdale, in the grounds dept, so that will give us a slight advantage

and we are ripping up rochdale of which is not going to well .So we can give a little back and get the press involved "PR" is what our company is after .We have been doing church footpaths ,time capsuls at schools etc .....so this is a good possibility

Good Morning Mr Lindsay

Further to our site meeting on the 22nd April regarding the restoration of the BMX track on Mandale Park, I can confirm that Environmental management has no objections to you carrying out any restoration works on the track. I have to point out however that environmental management does not have any funding currently available to assist in this project.

As discussed, I have no objection to the sympathetic cutting back of overgrown branches to clear the track. I cannot support any indiscriminate cutting or felling of any tree or shrub. Approval by me or a member of environmental management’ street services team must be gained before any felling of trees takes place .

I feel I must also point out that the future of the site is uncertain.

Regardless of any works carried out by yourselves, or by contractors on your behalf, Mandale Park will remain in the ownership of Environmental management.

Please keep me informed of your progress.
