DP FREESTYLER - UPDATED WITH FRAMESET PICS
« on: March 25, 2008, 10:20 PM »
Picked this up yesterday thanks to dannywhiteley.  :daumenhoch:

The wheels were identified on another thread as acorn. however, now I have looked at them closely they are branded ammaco. were these made by acorn or by some other manufacturer

Any info greatly appreciated. They look to be ding free, need a good clean and prob a bleach. hubs need servicing and plates lightly rubbed down and polished.

Cheers Marc

Yep those are Acorns.

Did they come on Ammaco Freestylers then, hence the Ammaco branding

Ammaco fitted them to one of there freestyle bikes for a while so if there marked ammaco they would be manufactured by acorn for ammaco, as they are acorn wheels.

That is well nice!!!  i lovely early one to!

must admit though i'd be tempted to leave the old decals on and have it as a survivor??  just gives it more charactor in my oppinion.

well nice though mate  :daumenhoch:

Sweet.  So its an early one is it?  How do you know?

To be honest, I would have probably stripped it and powdered it white, but I do see the attraction in keeping it a survivor.  Every mark tells a story of some kid coming off it while trying to jump bricks BITD.

Are you selling off any of the parts?

i can't see the pictures anymore cos i'm at work....but i'm sure all the early ones had the solid plate at the back with the brake hole in and the serial number stamped in it......the later models had DP cut out of the plate.....but i could be wrong mate  :-\

If you look at one of the fork leg decals its really worn this is probs from old school wheel balance type tricks.
It is a fairly early one as it doesn't have the dp cut out but its not one of the very early one's as these had the gold/black firebird flame decals like the ones they used on the single top tube frames. Its certainly looks in good nick!

The rear chainstays, coaster bracket and rear dropouts are also different on early and late models.

Early below (more curved lower chainstays in profile and note position of coaster bracket - very early models did not have a serial number stamped on them)

Later model below (straighter chainstays, coaster bracket moved up and slightly different dropouts - same as GL though you could also get this frame without the DP cutout above the rear brake bridge and internal cable guides (non-GL) )
