One of the most prestigious components.... lovely condition too  :)
good to see that Subwax is still plundering quality bits from overseas collectors for us to enjoy here in the UK  :daumenhoch:

Not just deep pockets,That is some serious passion..or addiction whichever way you look at it.

$675 for a stem,$250+ for a set of grips.

But fair play though,he must have some seriously nice bikes in his collection.

Currently finalising my Masters in Human Psychology & have been studying several related human conditions that got me thinking.....

My loose psychological profile of this person, based on the fact i know nowt about him is that during the wonder years of Bmx early 80's he had little or no money and often looked at others who had more than him but could do nothing about it. Now,being in the current life position he is in financially the constant buying/purchasing of parts that were back then simply out of his reach or otherwise unobtainable serves to bolster a mental image within himself of a "take that, take that" as an imaginary offensive against those people back in the day who had more than he did, somehow now convincing himself he is now superior than those he once looked up to...However this initial buzz of obtaining such a part releases a chemical in the brain related to similar experiences during orgasm and as such is short lived requiring the subject to want more.In this case the constant buzz is repeated via continued purchasing of more items related to that experience....

Either that or he just loves his BMX's  ;D

No college needed for that hypothesis..... I expect that profile fits 95% of the members on here....  ;D

The funny thing is those people who raced those stems back in the early mid eighties (myself included) rated them -until the caps started cracking. The slightest abuse those caps got, they'd crack good n proper. Then the pros also deserted them in their droves.

I have 2 also, but i didnt pay 300 quid for one and 250 for the other like those crazy dudes on ebay Mr Coolstuf,or 300 quid plus like Mr Subwax 4 or 5 times over.Ive only watched prices as ive considered selling mine in the near future.

They came from Mel Vauvelles shop at 35 quid a piece, along with a 'cheaper' Hutch deep H at 30 quid. At 14 years of age and 6'2" i needed big bars, big stems to make sure my knees werent bashing them every pedal!  ;D

Seriously i think someone needs a reality check at paying that for a stem, either that or they are severly lacking something elsewhere in their lives & gain such enjoyment from owning such an item that in their eyes it makes it well worthwhile.

Funny thing too,i wasnt aware what prices these reached until a couple months ago & i know where at least another ESP stem is locally, still attached to the Scorpion bike that was raced in 85, i know i could buy the bike for half what just the stem went for on ebay - looking at the silly prices theyre going for,i'm going to make a call this weekend and see if i can grab it now :daumenhoch:

You are right about the ESPs.... i knew two guys who rode them and they both had stress cracks in the top plate.
