Can i disclose my reserve price to a bidder ?
« on: March 18, 2008, 09:40 PM »
As above is it normal practice for someone to ask what the reserve is on something on ebay ?
And if so am i at liberty to tell them or is it better practice for me to tell them nowt?

Any help would be mucho appreciated. :Great_Britain:

Its up to you, but if I ever set a reserve & someone asks me what it is then I always tell them  :daumenhoch:

I do even say what the reserve is in my description  ;)

They are more likely to bid if they think the reserve is a fair price

it shouldnt make any difference as buyers should make up their own minds what its worth,

other side of the coin is if you went to christies and asked what the reserve is that would tell you where to go,

i just play it by ear as the others said really,

I always look at it like this.

If i'm selling something and i just want rid,or not worried about how much cashola it makes,i dont set a reserve.

If i wont let something go unless i get either what it owes me,or what i think is a fair price enough for me to not miss it,i'll set a reserve.

On that basis.I dont mind people knowing what the reserve is.. if they ask i'll tell them. I dont see the point of keeping a reserve secret. But thats me. Its worked so far.  :daumenhoch:

just tell them to bid up to what they can afford, that way they might go the extra mile :daumenhoch:

Ive been on ebay for nearly 10 years now (700 feeback) and have never ever put a reserve on anything.  I feel that it puts off potential bidders as they know that they probably wont get a bargain.

IMO its always better to start an item with a low no reserve start price too reel in the bidders.  Once they start bidding they get the buzz of owning whatever it is your selling and when they get outbid are more likely to go back in with a higher bid.  I find that you tend to get more action and better bids on a non-reserve item and hence have never set one on any items ive sold.

But if I did set reserves I dont see the problem in telling.  As long as the reserve gets broken your happy, and with a reserve gone its more likely to open up the bidding.
