SHIMANO SAINT QUESTION

[HEYWOOD BMX]

  Was thinking about putting some Saints onto my Dialled MX20.The frame has a 73mm rather than a 68mm bb shell.Will it still be a straightforward fitting job? The cranks do come with a 73bb as well,and Mike from Dialled runs DXR`s which are similar on his  Dialled cruiser.Any help/advice greatly appreciated before I go and waste money on something that won`t fit.

Saints come with spacers so you can fit to both euro BB sizes.

Mate if you want one i get them through work so i can sort you out a healthy discount of about £30 or £40 quid so if you need one let me know, choice of arm lengths and sprocket size etc.

You need to fit one 2.5mm spacer behind one of the cups, either side depending on your chainline setup. There should be three spacers with the cranks, only use one, the other two would be required if you had a 68mm shell.  Make sure you get the frame 'faced' if it's not already (removing the paint) otherwise the BB can run poorly, most shops can do it for you.

You need specific tools to fit the cups and caps too, Not included with the saint crankset.

Get the frame faced/use the correct tools (with a torque wrench) and most importantly CHANGE THE CHAINRING BOLTS TO CRO MO ONES

I've never seen any BMX bikes set up properly with Saints, so my recommendation would be to splash the extra cash and get DXR.

I know DXR are double the price of Saint, but if Steve can get you a discount, it will work out a bit cheaper.

if you're on a budget they now do a Deore hollowtech II chainset....chainreaction do em for about £40 posted 


after all they're all the same design within reason, just a little heavier

They might all look similar but there is a world of difference between saint and LX, one is a freeride/dh crank so beefed up wall thicknesses, better quality materials, the LX is a mid level mountain bike cross country crank, will flex more and i wouldn't jump it to hard. If you want a budget crank that will be BMX tough then try Shimano Hone.

strange mine are notably stiffer than all the profiles ive tried and all the primos ive owned

its the same bearings , same axle , same manufacturing process , same tollerances

why pay twice as much for a few mm in the wall thickness and a different colour 

why do people underestimate the budget equivelent

but i would still rather use the middleburn rs7 , a proven crank on world cup downhill ( the suspension doesnt stop them being bashed against rocks ) and still favoured by trials riders

its all about being a fashion victom, and snobery perry    take me you cant sell dk's for love or money on here, yet im on my second dk bnow, i loved my first and it worked great, full cr-mo frame, not the lightest but then you change bits as you go along, funny aswell, if i changed the paint on my 4pack and added different decals who these days would know the difference  heres mine personalised  im into riding not what the neighbours got

  Hey Zed,it`s not all about the snobbery-well not for me anyway,just thought about trying something new.DK`s are great.I`ve ran their Chopstix cranks before and they were great,inexpensive,light and never broke.Fashions come & go,but a good bike lasts for ever!

wasnt getting at you mate the saint stuff is sweet,    just what perry said about similar stuff that is as good but cheaper, and not got the right name on,    its all about budget and what works for you
