Poor service?
« on: March 17, 2008, 11:05 AM »
:) Anyone else had poor service from an allegedly professional BMX/bike shop/distributor? I spend a small fortune over the year on BMX parts and accessories and really hate it when I get treated badly.I worked in service industries for 20 years so I can understand that sometimes things can go wrong, but when you get ignored or blatantly lied to , I just want to hurt someone.I emailed a top UK BMX distibutor with a genuine enquiry, and so far I have not even had an acknowledgment either way. This is a company who get thousands of pounds of my money every year.Maybe such companies should be named & shamed on RAD?

*My first mail to them was sent on 24.02.08!

I contacted KHE about some MKS grafight-X type pedals and with german efficiency they replied.

They didn't have any or could direct me to someone who had, but they did reply.

I bought some stuff off Winstanleys and they said it was in stock (it wasn't)!!!!!

:) I`m gonna give `em a few days, then I`ll be happy to publicly insult them.I`ve had trouble with Winstanleys in the past.Chainreaction have been praised for good customer service, and I have used them myself and they`ve been great, even if they are not  "specialist" BMX dealers.I`d also say The Source are a top place-I asked them for a bit of help when I was trying to organise sponsorship at Heywood a few years ago and they were v.generous.

I ordered an Odyssey mono lever from Winno's, waited 2 months for it, after which, i cancelled the order...
four weeks later it came through the post!!!  :idiot2:

When i started back riding again, i ordered a Hoffman Condor frame from Winno's... which i paid for in advance in the November,
come January the next year it arrived at the shop, i went to collect it... and they'd sold it!! bearing in mind i'd already paid for this frame 3 months previous & the spanish bb i needed for it!!  :wtf:

So a month later, i finally recieve my frame (in a different colour to what i ordered) and of course without the bb i'd paid for!!

I hear they've moved to a warehouse now... i havnt shopped with them for a while, they may have got there act together by now??

Arsegear? We're not on the topic of dry bumming again are we  ;D

Yeah regarding bmx distributors, this (no names) big old school one I've emailed several times and don't get a reply and they have had a fair few quid off me too over the years... hate that! Only way they seem to respond is hitting the buy it now on ebay! So that's fine by me, because if they want to lose final credit fees etc... then so be it!

Only decent one I deal with and get friendly polite replies and top quality service is Steve @ Skatepool, just a shame that a lot of his stock is drying up now  :(  ;)

I've just remembered another one... a Birmingham based bmx shop.

(it only happened the once so dont think its fair to name them!!)

A few years back i was after a pair of Haro Mega forks, this shop's Ad in Ride had a pic of the very ones,
i phoned them, ordered them, paid for them... weeeeeeeeeks later i got a pair of forks in a Hoffman box in the post...
and they were not Haro forks, they wasnt even Hoffman forks, they wasnt even BMX FORKS!!! (MTB)

so well p1ssed off i called the shop only to have some kid tell me that what i had been sent were in fact Haro Mega forks and that i did'nt know what i was talking about, so after explaining to this kid that i was riding before his Dad even knew his mum,
he finally gave in and admitted there MAY have been a mix up!!! (may have been!) :idiot2:

Ended up having to speak to the manager to sort it out, never did get the Haro forks!! :-\

i phone cyclone / alans / or wander into cyclesport

but thats only because my local shop back in the day had to close ( bike shed brixham ran by frank )

check on a map to see how small a town brixham is but we had a lot of riders and frank would order anything we asked for no matter how obscure or difficult to get hold of  :4_17_5:

his shop was tiny and set aside from the road so had a courtyard where everyone would discard their bikes while dong mundane shopping in town , this was back before myface or even mobile phones so if you wanted to ride with someone you had to go and knock for them or ride down to franks to see who was sitting about

i would haveten turn up in the morning and just stand around chatting to whatever other locals would pop in through the day  ;D

sometimes he would wander off to the bank or tell one of us to go to the chippy lol

his only rule was no swearing while "real " people were in the shop and he had no problem lending us tools to use ( i had hold of his fat chain tool for about a week once lol )

he could build a damn fine wheel and was a totally cool guy

i think he lost the enjoyment of bikes and all the younger riders getting into it would rather go mailorder so in the end he closed  :(

ive heard nothing but bad things about winstanleys . id rather spend a few quid more in a shop that has history  :daumenhoch: ( or get a blinding deal on some second hand ebay bargains   )

His not a bad bloke... bought a lot from him over the years but I think his losing that personal service he used to offer (no dodgy quotes please hehe). I think that the way he stores his parts are second to none though, very well kept.

They have always replied to my emails.

I can't fault them.

They even offered me round to look through all their duplicate BMX Magazines, so that I can buy them.

I have had a few problems with the email though, but I'm not sure whether its on my end or theirs.   BT Internet can be a bit funny with the emails.

Sometimes I've sent emails and they have been bounced back.  Other times they go through.
