This is a build I did for a "biker build off" on BMX Action Online (.com)
Sometime this next week when all 4 of the builders post thier builds, there will be open voting for the "build off". Reilley1 is also one of the builders. We had to extend the deadline for Reilley. Life got in the way of him being able to finish his up.
Ok here we go with all the details;
Frame, 1956 26" Schwinn cruiser (I call these "straight bars" due to the straight middle tube)
Fork,
Redline late 70s era
Bars,
Redline junior "V" bars, late 70s era (extended 4" on each side and rake was flattened)
Stem,
Redline 1st generation dbl clamp, late 70s era (polished original finish)
Cranks,
Redline 1st generation "pinchless" flights, late 70s era (polished original finish)
Sprocket,
Redline 43 T, late 70s era
Pedals,
Redline Flight Magnesium platforms (new)
Grips,
Redline (new)
Seat clamp,
Redline (new)
Headset, Tange (NOS)
Seat, Unity by Giant (new)
Seatpost, generic (new)
Rims, 26" Araya aluminum, polished then I painted the center black (old, but unknown date)
Spokes, Sapim CX "bladed" stainless
Front hub, Sunshine high flange (NOS)
Rear hub, Bendix Redband coaster brake
Tires, generic (new)
Chain, "BMX USA", late 70s era
Stickers, reproduction (with consent from Redline)
Paint, basic Rust-oleum gloss enamel, then clearcoated
I laced and trued the wheels myself. The front wheel is radial laced, the rear wheel is laced in a pattern I have heard called "crowsfoot". Every third spoke is radial and the two on either side cross in an X over it.
The purpose of my build was to make this old style cruiser look like my 2007 Redline. I am extreemly happy with the results. The paint matched up perfectly and the old school parts and stickers set it off exactly as I planned.
Here is a slide show of 23 more pictures that lasts about a minute and a half.
