Hey poolysheriff - i'm liking those forks  ;)  just wondering which plasticoat you used - i'm going for white myslf but a quick google brought up various types (Plastikote for hard surfaces no primer required, Plastikote for metals and kitchen appliances, Plastikote white Hi-Gloss, Plastikote for tiles and smooth surfaces etc.) Help  :LolLolLolLol:

Oh and Fraz how are you getting on with yours now ? Any pics ? You sound like your going through all the fears i'll be going through in a few weeks  ;D

Well I am now the rattle master!   8)  But seriously I can do a pretty good job now, sprayed quite a few things recently(frames, forks ,seatposts, bars, the patio, the shed  :LolLolLolLol:) , still not too impressed with the stickability of car sprays though it does flake off quite easily like when you're setting up your bike, I've used plastikote since too and it's definately different to car sprays I used the gloss one on some cranks and they look like they've been powdered, I found you don't need to do all the sanding between layers with plastikote but to me it doesn't feel proper dry for a few weeks but sticks much better, whereas car spray seems to feel dry quicker but scratches more easily, but I could be wrong.
Heres the  crank arms -

Good luck !

Fraz

I bought an old Renault Clio last year that was white apart from one cream door that must have been replaced at some point.  Cos the car only cost me £142 I decided to tackle it, cos it wouldnt matter so much if I messed it up.

I did all the prep work, undercoats, paint layers and lacquer coats out in the car park of my office one weekend.  Considering the environment (dry weather, bit of dust whipped up by the ligth breeze, flies everywhere etc) I didnt do a half bad job.

This security guard came over to see what I was doing and the fact I was aerosol canning a car door but actually getting a decent finish he thought I was some sort of god.  I even newspaper masked off the front end of the car making me look like a proper pro. :D

I sanded down the original black powder coat on the cranks so it was flat and non glossy, 1 coat of primer and two coats of plastikote  :daumenhoch:

I just used halfords grey primer just to make sure I'd sanded the surface properly, it's better to see it all as one flat colour than a mix of sanded black powder and bare metal  :daumenhoch:
