Paying a yank that don't take Paypal
« on: February 21, 2008, 05:28 PM »
Any ideas how I could do this?

He's got some bits I'd like, is OK with sending them (Phew, that makes a change) BUT he doesn't take Paypal.

Any suggestions as to how I could get payment to him? A friend suggested a bank transfer to his account but, having dealt with US banks before I can see that being a complete mare.
Anyone got any friends stateside that I could paypal to and they could send on a cheque or something like that?

thanks

Could do Western Union but its a bit more costly and also a tad risky too, but so is tranferring directly to their bank acc.... can't advise anymore than that mate really  :)

I've sent $200 in an envolope before but guy seemed genuine on u.s bmx forum with a good post count, send it special recorded/ signed for if it goes missing you will get some back, £88 i think.  my deal went good, the guy even threww some extras in but it was worth the risk, but i felt sick for a few days hoping the guy would come good and send stuff to me.

I've done the Western Union thang and kept my fingers crossed, all came good and now after a bit of work I have this baby...

Any excuse to post a piccy  :LolLolLolLol:

US Banks are a pain as they charge a huge inbound fee for international transfers, how about an international payment order or draft?  All depends on how much  it is and how much of risk taker you are Steve as a few have said you could just send the cash   :daumenhoch:

I wouldn`t trust someone in this country who never excepted paypal let alone someone in another country  ::)

I was going to make that guy an offer for his Trickstar f+f (if that's the bike in question) but I was put off by the fact he didn't accept Paypal.  Sending cash in an envelope is a very risky business, though.  I sent a guy in Germany, 30 Euros for a set of NOS Haro folding pegs but, unsurprisingly, the letter went missing.  The payment was sent 'International signed for' and insured so I thought I'd be able to claim it back.  After checking the 'small print' I found out that sending any form of currency is not covered by the insurance >:(

I've had pretty bad experiences with this type of thing.

I've tried both Western Union type transfres and sending cash...both deals went sour and I lost a few quid (or dollar) in the process. I'm not sure I'd bother mate - unless it's something you really must have, you may be causing yourself undue stress and wasting your hard earned in the process.

I've decided to give it a miss. I looked into the Western Union option and sending cash and decided that the possible downside of getting stung wasn't worth it.

Thanks for all your advice though.
