Needle in a haystack, Andy. I've seen so many conflicting facts all i can tell you is it's 90-95 although i've only seen proof of mass produced Bulldog frames from 92 and they changed to inch and an 8th in 94 but they did both head set types for a while so it could be later.  ??? :idiot2:

hi, the XL i used to have, had brake cable lugs on the down-tube (most models have them on the top-tube),and a hole for a brake behind the back wheel.  Serial no. PK3060. Apparently, these are quite rare; from what I can find out, we're talking 1989 (but don't quote me on that!).  Also, the rarest XL is the one with the straight tubes on the chain-stay.
Hope that is of some help. Can you post a picture of the full frame?
Cheers Russ

The non-loop PK with straight chainstay would be a 85-86 model with a 19.5 " top tube
Way before the XL PK which was introduced in the early nineties (20.5 or 21")

The pitbull model was early nineties, I have the test from Ride when it came out plus the pitbull wasn't even out on 87 was it?

bananadude, i reckon that's an early 90s bike mate.

It's interesting how many dates appear when you mention XL's and when they started production, I've got a few late 80's  / early 90's mags I'm gonna have a look in those and see when they first get a mention.

Here is pic of full frame as requested it's a bit rough but sound under the shit powder coat job

Thanks for the help guys  :daumenhoch:

I dont know much about PKs, but from reading some of the stuff General Lee has written about his frames, I think the first non loop tailed frame was the "straight stay" one, which had ..... well .... straight chainstays. I guess there was a problem with crank clearance on the straight stay ones, so they then changed to the curved chainstay like that one.

I think the confusion here is when SE started to offer the XL version the basic design of the frame in standard length was definately out by 87 but that would have the standard Pro top tube length of 19.5" the question is did they offer the XL version at the same time or did this come later

Hope you find that thread Bob it should become a sticky

Thanks for the input all  :daumenhoch:

Here you go, it was two years ago...

http://www.radbmx.co.uk/forum/index.php'topic=11932.msg132969#msg132969

Mark yours is the same model as Andys and is the variant which is hardest to nail down because of all the conflicting rumours.

I've since learned from Scott that they did indeed make XL PK's in Asia.

OK I've been doing abit of digging through BMX Plus and come up with the following

The launch of the Pitbull brake August 1988

Frame test from September 89. This shows no hole behind the bottom bracket for a Pitbull and doesn't list a XL varient of the frame.

Frame round up from June 91. This lists no XL varient of the frame and also the frame shown has no cable guides on the front triangle down tube which would make me guess it also has no Pitbull mount

Had a look through my 92 mags (but unfortunatally have a big gap in them in the middle to the end of the year) and noticed the following April 92 no shops list a PK Ripper XL frame for sale. The next mag I have is December 92 and in this the XL is now listed for sale so I can only guess at the following: the Pitbull mount and XL varient appeared at the same time in Mid 92.

Anybody with mid 92 BMX Plus get looking through them for a launch article

Cheers

Andy
