I think the most common way is to mount the tool in a vice, then offer the wheel onto it, then twist the wheel to undo. A friend on mine made his own freewheel remover (4 pronged thing) and welded it to a long bolt. he then bolted it in place of the axle. It made the whole job a lot easier when pissing around trying to get it in the vice/on the freewheel.
Personally, I've always been able to loosen mine with a well aimed steel punch and a bloody good whack with a hammer. I'm not sure you want to do that with tuffs though, I'm not sure how well they'd handle the shock of the blow...
