Greasing up
« on: February 16, 2008, 09:05 AM »
When you build a show/display bike, do you bother with greasing up the BB and headset?  Seems like a lot of unecessary mess to me if it aint going to be ridden.

Also a silly question (but im still a novice).  Which way do the ball races sit in the BB?  Do the bearings rotate against the BB cup or the crank?

If you take a loose ball bearing race in the cage & place it flat side down on the table like this:

then put the BB cup over it, covering it - that is the correct fitment :daumenhoch:

Same for headsets too...

The bearings rotate against both the Cups & the Crank races.

Grease it, even if it aint ridden, that way, when you missus pisses/pours something on it when you are not in, it wont rust the moving parts  :daumenhoch:

Cheers for the info, I had the ball races in correctly, just checking :daumenhoch:

And I will grease up afterall, I need to swap the cranks so will do it then.  Not going to be ridden far, but it will protect the parts for if it is ever ridden.
