Hoffman Big Daddy
« on: February 07, 2008, 01:40 PM »
I've just become the owner of this. Do any of you Hoffman experts have any idea how old the frame may be, what forks they are and what Bars and stem it may be wearing.

The frame is 94. The bars look like haro kneesaver 2's.  I can't see the fork dropouts, may help with a pic of them.

its an early one .not sure about the stamping on the outside of the dropout as mine are inside on the other side
so maybe a ramp room version.

That's an early frame. The dropouts look 3/16" thick.

I think a brief history lesson is needed here lads.

When did they first come out and how long were they made for.

Pictures would be good as well. :LolLolLolLol:

I'll give it a try. The first frames came out in 94 like the one you have pictured. Curved BB gussett and coaster tab on the chainstay. Then the dropout were thickened to 1/4".

In 95, the coaster tab was moved to the seatstay.

Then the gussett was changed from curved to round.

In 96 the dropouts were shortened.

After the last 96 in the pic, which all were US made, they went overseas. Those had 14mm dropouts and HB stamped on the headtube gussett. I could be wrong on some things? but hope this helps.  :daumenhoch:

That's really helpful Alan.  :daumenhoch:

I've looked through the museum and haven't seen another Big Daddy with the coaster tab on the chainstays, so perhaps there's not that many of these over here in the UK.

Ya you better order a set of Bykes Big Daddy decals. gotta build it up the way it should be. Actaully that frame could have had the decals that were on the test bike in BMX Plus.

Were they made by SE as well then?

Which would be the right decals for it then as I take it the one in the picture above is the same frame with the same thickness dropouts as mine.

i think SE made them '93-'94
ramp room '94-'96
tiawan 96-98
so 'cause your has coaster mount on chainstay looks like an early on -also with the two cable guides on the downtube ?

I don't think you will find those decal that are on the test bike.   Better off going with some of Marks repop decals. Unless a person could find a better pic of the test bike and copy those.

Well it arrived this morning. The chrome is really, really nice, not rust whatsoever.  I'll post up some pics of it on Wednesday evening but it's very, very nice indeed.

Yes! Lets see more pics.
not sure about the decals like in the test though. Never seen them other than the test and it doesn't show a clear pic of them.

Anyone else have a pic of a big daddy with those decals?

I dont know if these are any help. I posted them up a while ago but as they are still in my Photobucket its easier to repost than to find the old thread

And I know I didnt have to include the HAF pages, but why would I do that?  ;)

Right I'm back from my training course now so I'll take some close up pics of the frame tomorrow at work and post them up. Apart from a few small nicks and a bit of cable rub it's in extremely good condition.
