Earls Court in the 80'S
« on: February 04, 2008, 11:13 PM »
Was talking to some riders yesterday and they was telling me about how the track was parket flooring with wooden jumps, everyone had slick tyres and sprayed them with hair spray :LolLolLolLol:
Anyone got any pics of the track or vids as it sounds quite fast and scary at the same time.
Thanks
Gary

Wasn't parket flooring, urethane finished concrete the standard Earls Court flooring.  1st year had dirt jumps and berms, 2nd year had wooden jumps and berms.  Both as slippery as fook and hurt like hell when you went down.

If anyone has pics of the 1st, 14's or 15's age group or any other racing there please post them up  :daumenhoch:.

Somewhere I have a photo of me and Charlie Reynolds both x-ed up over the tabletop. Will try to dig it out and scan.

and after Earls Ct (bike 82 and bike 83) it moved to Olympia where they had the first 'Champions of Champions' race.  I just gave Carl Alford a cool pic of him and charlie Reynolds, Gary Llewellyn and Sid Salisbury speed jumping the first jump, i'll see if i can get it scanned.

I was running 1"3/8s with all white michelin shopper tyres on my Robinson, quality!

I raced there Gaz, both years. The funniest thing was weeks before the race trying to get hold of shopping bike tyres and nicking my mums hair spray. The ozone layer above Earls court must have been non-existent :2funny:

Didn't go to Olympia after the crap ramps at the 83 Earl's Court race, figured it was more hassle than it was worth  ::).

Here you go Clive :

I see you stand like greyhounds in the slips,
Straining upon the start. The game's afoot:
Follow your spirit, and upon this charge
Cry 'God for Harry, England, and Saint George!'

cheers Bill, who's riding the hack with Chris? That doesn't look like Andy plus Andy would have had some punk band t shirt and arm sliders instead of a race jersey!!!

Awesome!

Thats me on the pedals with Chris, Clive, Chris wanted to save his legs for his own age group so I had to pedal in the hack, and fook me they were heavy back then  :LolLolLolLol:

Awesome Bill, I raced on the hack with Andy, i think it was the year after this, the race when Andy patterson came over on Skyway. One of the raddest things i've ever seen was Trevor Chapman and Gary Southgate jumping the coffin doubles at Birmingham Wheels on the mongoose sidehack, just mad that was, must have been 15-20 feet back then!
