Skyway TA's
« on: February 04, 2008, 11:38 AM »
I have just read the serial number thread in the Tech bit.

Are the "Japan K" frames more or less desirable than the USA made ones? or does it not really matter with TA's

IMO i dont think it matters. I prefer the US stamped ones under the BB. People say that the K ones are prototype frames. Im not too sure on this as i found one on ebay a few months back and the bloke had it from new and bought it from a shop in kent in '83! Why would prototype frames be sent to shops in Kent?

Personal choice i think with these.  ;)

Interesting. I got a US one and  a Japan one. Was trying to figure out which one to keep and which one to sell.

Cheers

Nah, they're not prototypes per se. Skyway had already designed the frame and forks along with the help of Andy Patterson. They looked in the USA for a company capable of making the teardrop tubing but couldn't find one. They went to Ishiwata Seisakusho Co. Ltd in Japan in order to get the job done. I believe all the early Jap ones were only in Chrome.

I think it was February 83 when Skyway finally got the machinery in order to make the tubing and frames themselves. From that date you get the US ones.

They are both mint, both Chrome and both 9.8 out of 10

I am going to flip a coin  :daumenhoch:

Are the race bars worth much? I seem to remember someone saying they were selling for crazy money on the US ebay

Yeah the race bars are quite difficult to find.

Let me know what you want for the T/A you are selling though. I'm interested.  :daumenhoch:

I'd say 83, i expect they ran both types together to clear the stock.
