My original DP freestyler from back in the day
« on: January 30, 2008, 03:03 PM »

I had a DP freestyler in the late 80`s/early 90`s when BMX was pretty much dead, used it loads then gave up as you do, I gave the bike away mid 90`s to a friend of a friend. It originally had OGK mags with coaster and ACS boa on the front, GT bars, Haro performer front forks.

Last year I managed to track down the same DP or what remained of it and get it back with a view of doing it up and starting riding again. It had been robbed of most of the parts and was one step from being dumped but the frame was still good apart from badly splayed dropouts:

After doing nothing with it for 18 months I stripped the various layers of paint from it, rewelded the dropouts and resprayed it white as it was once. I reused the original GT mallet stem, MX seatclamp and Skyway Turbodisc/ Sugino crank.
I Bought new Skyways/whitewalls, BOA`s front and rear, GT bars and a pair of original DP forks. Its not a mint showbike but it is my original BMX which is what I wanted back. I enjoy riding it and just cruising around, get a lot of interest when I`m on it.

As i`m in a bit of an 80`s retro phase I might even get my old Lotus Esprit back on the road at this rate!

Glad you like it. I was going to get decals for it but I prefer the clean destickered look to be honest.

And yes I really should get my arse in gear and do something with the Esprit.
