I agree about the site membership fees..That would virtually kill it off (as far as attracting new members is concerned,as Ratty said)

But in order to raise some well needed operating dosh, show cost funds ect, then how about a subscription service for the Marketplace part of the site?

Each member pays say,£10 per year and that gives them access to do all the trading they want. The rest of the site is free for new members to look around and contribute to,and they can still view the marketplace but if you want to sell/trade then you gotta subscribe.

As has been said, its prob the busiest part of the forum and 10 quid out of anyones proceeds for the whole year is well worth it..

Got to agree here  :daumenhoch:

Regarding camping at MK you need to do what they do at National Race events charge for camping and also charge the day trippers or Hotel'ers
for parking. Camping fees at national races are £20 and parking between £3 to £5.

Any better ideas for making the site some money ?

Allow 3rd party ads on the site or join an affiliate network.

Lets face it, we all buy stuff that's not BMX related - helping this site could be as simple as clicking on a banner and buying something I would have bought anyway... or viewing an ad etc.

TradeDoubler here is an example:
http://www.tradedoubler.com/pan/cms/products/products_publishers

If you have any questions re this drop me a PM.

I said it before, and will do again. Charging to access the site will stop new users dead in their tracks. I would not pay for a site I had never seen!!!
Perhaps the for sale section should have a charge attached to it, it seems the post popular part of the site these days :-\

After all, the sellers can always factor a couple of quid into the sale.
Perhaps it can be worked so you can sample the site as a guest for free so they can see the site then charge a tenner to join, I would pay for sure.

i really believe in the charge to access the site fully as i feel as many others do that the site has too many members as is and lot dick heads that abuse it too .if your willing to pay for the useage then you really want to be here and you will hopefully treat the site right .i wouldnt have problem with paying some sort of entry fee to mk08 also as this would be great fund raiser and hepofully make the event even better this year if thats possible .a tenner or fiver per person would raise 1000 quid or whatever but the cost to the revellers is not even 2 or 3 pints at the pub for full weekend entertainment.
paYING FOR THE SITE access WOULDNT RUIN IT IN MY VIEW JUST WEED OUT THE CRAP .
THERES MY TEN PENCE WORTH

How about free 6 months then a £10 a year fee after that?? Only prob would be new usernames/same users from an IP addy and aint got a clue how you fix that :idiot2:

I think that sounds sensible, we don't scare of new members but give them enough for them to want to join...............am sure its a nightmare IT wise but am sure do'able.........

Why not issue long service awards but you pay to recieve them, 1, 2,3 years etc and give longer members a restricted area, another snug of sorts ::) ???

i'm glad i run a bike shop and not a bike company, or a paintshop or a bmx website, in fact, fook it, i wish i didn't run anything!!! :LolLolLolLol:

Seriously though, i've been on here for what, six months? I've never paid anything but would gladly.  Maybe there are a lot of guys that just need to know how it all works, so i'll pay some cash happily but i think if i'd have come on here six months ago and had to pay to be allowed 'in the gang', i might not be here now.

Anyway, you guys are doing a great job and this site is awesome, well done, pat yourselves on the backs.

Agreed I just seen this thread and never considered the cost of running this site (how much is it just out of interest????).  Therefore have just paid the £10.  Can someone please explain how I can add the GIF's and stuff to my name so, that I'm more colourful, like everybody else.

what about rad-bmx race jerseys

-black silver - white

-with
FACTORY RIDER
on them, maybe username

maybe milton ketnes 2008 on them

charge at least 100 quid each

-then every one feels connected, on the same team

you have some thing to wear come mk 2008 = you dont look ike some old ho=bo

pre bought 2 months in advance, would make you want to actually have a roll around the track wearing in

then have the donations bin for cheques at the track
charge a score entry

also it costs about 100 quid for 3 months, to have a avatar sized advert/banner click link thing - stick them in a line on the right hand column, sell the advert space to the bmx shops - they have a claim p anyhoots - advertising budgets, ten up there is 300 quid a month

the coffers are lined

Hey, can anyone get in on this? I would be happy to kick in a donation. My only problem is a dirt clod in your first turn has more value than one of my dollars. :LolLolLolLol:

What's an old HOFer to do?

I don't know if you guys have noticed, but it seems that almost every BMX site out there has a rash of negative threads going on. I just can't seem to get away from them.

^^^...for what its worth Dennis we'll gladly have your 19.8843 USD (=£10) when your ready  ;D

Seriously though,i still say this. 10 quid subscription to the Marketplace per year.

Site Supporters get free access (for their 'donation')

That way its a no pressure kick up the arse for members old and new to contribute a few £££ to the day to day and event running costs of the site.

Come on. The majority of stuff shifted around the Sale/Trade/Wants sections is high value old school items and as i said earlier 10 quid out of a years worth of deals is nothing. We are not paying any listing or final value fees as at ebay,or advertising costs as per newspapers etc. Instant sales, almost instant payment, its nowt to throw a few bits of shrapnel back into the site. Thats why less than a week after being here i felt i should contribute in some way and when me PP tops up i'll gladly do it again.

Members who just browse the other sections and contribute threads, find out information about racing, resto etc still get it all free,so youre not scaring anyone existing off and not deterring new blood.

Dont be scared to do it RAD.

I have to believe that it would not be too much of a burden for those of us who use this site to kick in few bucks when necessary for the purpose of keeping the site up and running.

I did the same when we started BMXA online. Greg called on a handful of us old timers and we all kicked in some to get it up and running.

It doesn't take a bunch of money from one person, just a little from the masses.
