Polishing Alloy (posts, rims etc) with Autosol
« on: January 27, 2008, 09:40 PM »
Ok, i've wandered around the site for a few months now and this Autosol name kept cropping up,so i bought myself a couple of tubes and today had a go at polishing an old cropped Renthal alloy layback i had in the garage.

All i can say is WOW.  It's done a hell of a rescue job on something i would have thrown away many years ago if it wasn't for the fact it once propped up the arse of a rather famous BMX'er BITD  ;) Now Nicely shiny, almost like chrome,i've managed to skate around the Renthal sticker, but i have this question..

There are a couple of lightly pitted areas which had started to blacken a bit.Polishing with the AS has removed the black from the pitted area, but although slightly better, still remains.
Which abrasive grade paper should i use,or is there something else which will smooth it out without leaving scratch marks?
Obviously i'll refinish the job again with AS,but i'm wondering how you guys manage the finishes i've seen.

Onto Rims..has anyone done a set of Pro Class Alloys fully with Autosol. Good Results? Time involved?

As always. Thanks in advance for your input!  :daumenhoch:

okey dokey right then
you can use a fine sandpaper to remove the pitting and then polish with the autosol
my tip is if you can put the seatpost in a vice with rag rapped around or use soft jaws get a long piece of cloth and wrap it once around the post and grab the ends you can with a push-pull motion you can get a better polishing action going and just keep adding a bit of autosol to the cloth until your happy with the finish :daumenhoch:
