LASERLITE - THE WAIT IS FINALLY OVER
« on: January 21, 2008, 06:20 PM »
The Kuwahara Laserlite has been my dream bike since age 14 in 1983. Christmas 82 I got an ET Kuwahara from my grandparents which was a big deal coming from a family with three younger brothers. So you can imagine how devastated I was when only four months later it was stolen, never to be seen again. I pleaded with my folks for a new bike but they refused to replace it for fear of it happening again. I was forced to accept this and returned to stunting on the Raleigh Strika I shared with one of my brothers.

As christmas 83 approached I began pestering my Dad again for a bike and had my heart set on a Laserlite. Again I was told NO!! So you could imagine my excitement to see I had a bike for christmas. However, on opening it my disappointment to discover that it wasn't a Laserlite. The bike was some kinda wannabee that the bloke in the shop had convinced my dad was a good alternative. This bike was from Scotia BMX in Edinburgh and was called a Scotia Aero. Not because it had aero tubing but Aero padset. Wow! This later turned out to actually be a Saxon bike that they stickered up as there own, great, all adding to more ridicule from my peers.

Further salt in the wound was inflicted by my best mate who, you guessed it got a Laserlite for christmas. Would never give me a shot and always liked to remind me my Dad wouldnt let me have one. I had, the last laugh eventually years later when his brother snapped the frame trying to jump a river.  :LolLolLolLol:

Anyway, now 25 years later age 38 the wait is finally over. This just arrived this morning from the US. cost me $650 inc shipping. Cant wait to give it a ride when its not snowing. Then I will strip it and fully restore.

Thanks guys. Yes, im well chuffed with it. Took a bit of time but got there in the end. I couldn't believe how cheap it was either

Getting it here was a bit of a mission too. The guy wouldn't ship to the UK so I had to get it sent to a friend of mine in Texas. He then brought it over with him on the plane at the weekend. said it was his and was for a competition. so I collected it this morning, no charges, only the cost of shipping to him in Texas

Didnt mean full restore. Just meant full clean and polish and rebuild. Will probably replace a couple of bits.

Apart from that totally happy with it.  :daumenhoch:

Cool  ;)

Looks close to factory spec bar the cranks/chainwheel , do you know if it was originally purchased as complete bike ? ( or built with the parts sourced ) .

Mattdub - The bike was originally a complete that he had bought from someone else. They had robbed the cranks, pedals, etc and he bought the parts to replace.

I have some 400's that I bought ages ago for a Haro build, but never got round too. However, they are in storage in Lincoln until I get a new job/place, temp lodging at the folks.
