Reet , I'm gonna sound proper anal now  but i just realised summat. On Greg Hill's shirt is has the Robinson logo as RRR but when i had my Robinson pro back in 82ish it had RRP meaning Robinson Racing Products (if memory serves me right  ) so when and why did it go to RRR and what does it stand for

Mate i was thinking that only the other day, i put it down to the product managers and designers at GT not really knowing or understanding the heritage or origins of robinson brand. What a surprise..............

Didn't GT stand for Gary Turner-did he sell out-when was that?

GT did/does stand for Gary Turner.

I think GT went public (i.e. became a listed company) around the early to mid-90s (after which Gary Turner left the company and Rich Long died in a motor cycle accident).  GT (and all the brands it owned) eventually fell into the ownership of Schwinn and in the early 2000s Schwinn got into financial difficulty and ended up being bought by (I think) Pacific (who also own Mongoose).

Most of the great bike companies we knew as kids are now owned by big multi-national corporates more interested in making money than producing quality stuff and forwarding the sport of BMX.

Mike, even in 87 or so when GT 'acquired' Robinson they probably didn't bother to look deep into the history of the company and continue it's legacy as they were so big then they were probably a tad complacent because of thier size and dominance.  However Mike, they had the jump on you mate as they made a couple of titanium prototypes back then that were really sweet, apparently the project cost a fortune as they had to buy in tubing big enough for US BB diameters.  The back end flexed too much as they didn't brace the chainstays.

Chuck Robinson must have pissed himself when he saw thier interpretation of his logo.

It's a shame that the Robinson and Powerlite brands have just died now that Pacific owns GT.

Maybe I should contact them and see if they'll sell me a licence

i heard  GT ended up with race inc too, apparently one of the main fabricators who used to weld up the race incs went on to do the zaskar alloy mtb's at GT.

the zaskar is a sweet mtb , i remember hans rey testing them , they snapped one at the headtube, it was a prototype, around 1990

Zaskars were a lot like Race Incs/PK Rippers.  I had one from 1994-1997 then replaced it with a Spooky Metalhead.

I never knew GT also owned Race Inc.  If they did, I never saw any GT stuff under the Race Inc brand.

I just heard that GT ended up owning the Race Inc brand name, they definately never made anything under the name.

I had the first Zaskar in the UK, and the first RTS and the first LTS, luckily I didn't have the first thermoplastic sts or i might not be here now!!
