Alot of Robinson talk on here of late... and since building and racing this....

I am falling more and more in love with them. Got this a while ago, hoping it might have some Amtrac info in it... but sadly its too early I think...
(Anyone with ANY Amtrac info, scans.. photos... adverts... articles... I would love to see them.)

Anyway.. here is the 1990 Robinson Catalogue..

Beard, the Amtrac was Charles Townsend's signature frame. CT rode for Robinson between 1991 and 1998, so I think the Amtrac first came out a couple of years after that catalogue in 1992/3.

I have a few of those jerseys but no pants left.

ZED, those decals i gave you preceed the ones in this brochure by a season or two. Those decals were fitted 88 I think, there are some subtle differences but they're very similar.

There was almost always an Amtrack add on the back of Invert magazine. I think it had CT stood on a train track, lookin tuff. I will have a look as see if I can find one and scan it in.

That's right Alex, that's how I remembered the Amtrac being Choo Choo Charles' signature frame, cos they ran those ads for a long time in all the mags worldwide. I guess he was Robinson's top rider until Greg Romero came along.

I can't remember whether the Amtrac ever went threadless/v-brake, or whether Townsend just switched to one of the aluminium Robinson pro frames once new school started. I remember him being one of the first guys to run those Spin 3-piece mag wheels but think he was on an aluminium frame by then.

Clive, did you ever have Spins on your bike? I think Spins were imported by Caratti and you were on GT (also imported by Caratti) around that time.

Generic seat made by Velo that hundreds of companies had branded with their logo during the 90s. I had an Xposure one and a DK one at some point.

Whats the connection between GT and Robinson - couldn't help notice the parts in the scans and the mutual address - i know GT bought Dyno - did they purchase Robinson as well!

GT did buy Dyno and Robinson ... and every other small company they could bully into selling up. Auburn, Powerlite .... More Im sure. They had "tacticks" for doing it. Good at "Business" I guess.

GT would start off making frames for other companies. They held back on making stuff when loads were wanted, and then build up a stock pile of frames in quiet times that couldnt be paid for. GT would offer to 'help out' by buying some of the company and before you knew it, another name was written on the side of the GT Van.

sounds very much like profit and turnover took over at GT - i was into other things during this time and always wondered what happened to GT - there modern bikes seem to be the modern day equivalent of the Raleigh Burner.

Not knocking Burners as they did a lot for BMX rightly or wrongly - and i still love the Aero Pro but in my opinion the AERO was the only truly raceable Burner and for me still remains desirable.

GT were awful. Once S&M had bought all their frames back from GT (and refused to let them "help out"), S&M went out of their way to pee off GT whenever they could. Everything from prank phonecalls on their Videos, to racing in "GT SUCKS" T-shirts (which got Moeller banned from racing for a while?). It was all very funny.

I don't think the amtrac had v brakes, that came on the SST? Me spins? Man I had some gay sh1t but gave those a wide birth....
