Sadly, not mine but belongs to my good friend Mel Stoutsenberger (of Rick's Bike Shop Fame)

Serial 10057.  Probably earliest known Goose yet

What a find, I hope he entrusts you to do the restoration on that Rick or is he going to leave it as a survivor?

Allow me to introduce you guys to Mel. This picture was taken in may have 1975 in Southern California. Imagine this, the jump is maybe 18 inches high!

Pukka bike Rick and it's got me thinking.

Who were they?

Mongoose i mean.

Why were they making BMX's?

We get all this bollox from the mid skool nazi's about rider owned this and rider owned that. Who was it at mongoose that put these bikes together and why/who for? did they make a decission to do these frames at a time when there was never that much of a demand surely?

What were they to do with BMX in it's beginning? they could only have been on a long shot if they were in it for any money to be made?

So was it started out of love or greed? By that i mean were they doing it for the kids or more of a right time right moment thing?

It's easy to talk of Mongoose now as a 'they' as i have done but were they alway a they or was it down to one person?
