Help with Dia Compe AD990s
« on: January 09, 2008, 09:30 PM »

I am looking to replace Tektro brakes with Dia Compe AD 990s. I have seen them for sale online, but before I buy them I want to know if the front calliper has a barrel adjuster like the Tektros, if not how does it work?

All pics I see on eBay look like rear brakes that don’t have an adjuster but could only fit a bridge cable (like the one pictured above).

Some DiaCompe Hombres come with kit to suit front and rear, and brakes named as FS990s are front brake specific.

But yeah, a proper one has a barrel adjuster on it  :)

Just a suggestion if you're ever down the bike shop with a spare quid in your pocket:

Do yourself a favour and buy a 'noodle', made for V-brakes. Cut it down to get the angle right as it isn't exactly a 90deg curve from cable to arm.
It stops the cable sticking out to the side. You can get flexible ones, too.
