JMC Race bike
« on: January 07, 2008, 04:00 PM »
Happy new year all.
Im after a bit of info regarding JMC race bikes. A fellow bmx pervert friend of mine recently come into ownership of a chrome JMC Shadow mini race bike. One of his friends used to race and win on jmc's regulaly back in the day and has sold him the last bike he ever owned. Now me and my mate are only into building mostly freestyle bikes and dont know much about the worth of these rare mini jmc's ( not that he's considering selling it ) so any information would be greatly received. The bike itself is in unbelivable used condition complete with parts such as mini tuff neck stem, Akai rims, nos comp 3 tyres that were fitted after its last race and subsequently never saw the dirt, mini ally CW's, Tange sealed bearing headset, mini uni seat, perpous built "specialities" crank made in france, robbie morales grips and good used condition pad set!!!
Let us know what ya know  :daumenhoch:

Many thanks

Si.

The official potted history can be found at http://www.jmcbmx.com/about.htm

I myself still own a JMC Shadow that I Raced until the end of the 1985 season. Still love it to death, but only race my New School GT Cruiser now.......

Nice one matt. Are these bikes worth much now?? I tend to build freestyle bikes and have a TA, PK, E.T, Haro Etc etc and know there worth. I know these bikes were made in limited numbers so would think they hold good value.
Many thanks.

They're up at PKRadman prices  :D  :daumenhoch:.

They have really held their value and a minty survivor should fetch as much if not more than a PK Ripper  :daumenhoch:.

right then..first off, if i'm not mistaken ( wouldnt be the first time) thats not a shadow or a mini..

that frameset is either a standard short, or 3.1XL...still rare, just not as rare as the mini's....

some interesting bits on it though...

i already have a standard short ( in the museum for ref.) so that rules me out as i fancy a mini to add to my collection..

there are a few people i know would love a punt at that....

good luck mate, and you'll have no problem selling it, provided you dont value it in the clouds :daumenhoch:

Hi Jt
Im not 100% on what model the bike is all i do know is that its bloody small and it has JMC Shadow stickers on it!!!
The guy my mate bought the bike off bought it from new and used to race it and im sure he wouldnt of changed the stickers over so i would think it would be a genuine shadow. I will take your advice and have a look in the museium. We have also emailed the guy who is "Mr JMC" through his web site to see if he can throw any more light on it through the serial number which is 83704. Any idea what sort of money these change hand for at the moment, I only build freestyle bikes and have know knowledge of prices for these bikes.

Many thanks

its definately not a shadow mate...geo's all wrong.

tricky one to value as its a specialist bit of kit....let the experts give you there opinion before i give mine..

for ref: i gave about 200 quid for my standard short f and f, prepped and not painted.... from memory...

the other bits on it may be of interest to a lot of people to break it down.

headsets worth 35-50 quid as it looks in very good nick etc etc...

interesting so see other peoples opinions!

Your right.
Ive just had a look in the musium and if whats on there is a shadow this certainly isnt, but this guy wouldnt of put shadow stickers on it ?!?!
Im gonna PM one of the JMC perverts on the muesium pages and see what they think it is. Very strange dude.
I will let you know what he tells me.

Many thanks

it's an '83 short standard. sold one not long back to an ex factory JMC rider in holland(mike), he's a member here but doesn't post much. F+f are worth 250 plus in decent nickb but you never know, 2 numpty's with deep pockets and it could make anything. Bit small for and adult, i think they were aimed at the bit between junior and senior about 12-16 year olds. The one i got was set up like that for a 13 year old kid with skinnies and mini bars.

Nice one dude.
My mate is gonna consider selling it. He wants to get himself a quad to go with his pk so needs to raise funds.
Many thanks for pointing out what it is. I just find it so strange its got shadow stickers on it and he was bought it from new and definatly didnt change the sticker set!!!
Perhaps the wrong ones were applied when it was made, who knows?????

Many thanks again.

if it was a shadow, then the serial would tell you and the size would be different.

A old racing collegue from Farnham BMX Club, has just complete the rennovation of his early JMC, (not sure what the variant was called), with the ultra skinny teardrop forks and down tube. Im off round his house either tomrrow night or next thursday to take a look. Ill grab some pictures and post them on here. While im at it, ill get some pictures of my Shadow also, (will need to clean it though after it was used as pit bike at recent Hayes meeting). Mine is stil exactly as it was the last race I used it in 1985, and still in V Good condition as spent most of retired life in watm dry loft.....
