ta fork problem
« on: January 02, 2008, 04:43 PM »
Hi there

I just started piecing a skyway ta together and it seems that when the frame was preped for painting the shockblasting has worn away some of the thread that  the headset fastens to. Does anyone have any ideas.

Thanks Doug

Take it to a local bike shop (not Halfrauds) as they should have a 24tpi thread cutter to re-cut it but if the dipstick that shotblasted it has taken too muck off there might not be much you can do.  Have you got any pics?

yep deffo try to get a thread re cut as marty said

if you have nothing much left for the top cap that sits on the ball bearings to grip onto
then a solution is ...to put it on as far as possible until it stops gripping ,then affix the next lock nut that sits ontop of it
then tighten that up so it grips and touches the lower one thats slipping, then put 2 or 3 spot welds joining them together
that should then be able to tighten the hole lot up together

try to use a poo headset as it will not be alot of cop after that..it does work thou.
