Hoffman Super fork!

So yesterday i got my NOS superfork in the mail.
I found that the stem won't slide on the steerer tube and the top nut won't thread on the chromed over threads.
Anyone used one of these?
And it's HEAVY!!!! Must be about 5pds

It's nothing daft like you have a 1" stem, but 1 1/8"th forks is it? And I was unaware that steerer tubes and threads got chromed....
Sling a photo up.

Actually i tried a 1 1/8 stem and it was to big. So the fork is a 1inch.

pop around mine matey and i will sort it one way or they other
see you in about 8 hours
i cant see what is wrong ,how tight is the stem does it just need the bolt loosening and the slot opening up a tad.

Ok1 i just check it out again and I tried putting the stem on the steerer tube. I removed the rear bolts. It won't open up any more. so i tried turning the stem on. it's tight enough it threaded the inside of the stem. LOL!

connor how far down are you putting the stem,it just sits on the blank none threaded part.
put a screw driver in the slot and open it up a tad but do it from under neath so not to mark it.

Jacob! No worries bro!
Dan. the stem won't go over the threaded part. I was able to turn the stem on the threads made threads inside the stem
I tried to open it up but it wouldn't budge

LOL! it's hard to explain I guess.
I'm saying the stem should just slide on right? then you tighten up the bolts on the back but you also need to thread on the top bolt.
on this fork the threads are at the top of the steerer tube like a regular 1inch threaded fork. this stem will not fit one so you can thread on the top bolt.
I gotta run to work right now. I'll take some pics after i get home tonight.

Those latest superforks are 1" threadless. They take a 1" ahead headset. The steer tube is completely smooth except for the very top 1/2", which is threaded. There is a locknut that holds the stem down, rather than a thread in compression bolt. My stem was not easy to slide on. The threads weren't chromed either.

Yeah, if it's a 1" ahead we're talking about, then it's not unknown to have to spread the stem slightly to get it over the topnut thread area....
You can (be careful) open the stem a bit be taking the bolts out, refitting them in the other side (threaded side) and inserting something in the slot for the bolts to push against. As you tighten the bolts, they will push against whatever you've put in there (a coin maybe) and open the stem a little.
Once again, be careful. You don't wanna strip the stem bolts out. Be sure to use plenty of lube on the bolts
