OXALIC ACID WHERE TO BUY IT?
« on: November 26, 2007, 08:22 PM »
OK I have a decent Chrome Kuwahara KZ Frame that I need to try the old Oxalic Acid on so where can I get my hands on some of this stuff and how much do I need to do a whole Frame & Forks.

Is it Crystal form I should be looking for?

Any help would be great thanks bodamus ;)

Ive just spent 10 mins searching for this link Nick! Jammy sod!

This is the most proffessional place to get it from but it was more expensive.  ;)

Dont forget your plastering bath. If you dont want the water to evaporate then cover the bath with a piece of wood to slow the process down and make it last. ;) All the mist and crap at the bottom is the rust that comes off!

pardon my ignorance but what does oxalic acid do to a chrome frame

I am currently waiting for a KZ1 to arrive so may need to use this stuff too

Once I know what its for/does I can determine what I need too do

Any info greatly received  ;D

If you leave it in the acid bath for 2 days it takes off and helps loosen (ridiculously easy) the rust spots on the chrome. It is especially good for the little tight areas like the gussets and in between the chainstays (BB). It also takes away the dullness in the chrome. Obviously if the rust has eaten through the chrome you are fooked and a rechrome or powder is needed.  ;) Try it. It is fantastic! It stinks though. You hands smell like they have been in a bowl of penises!

Can anyone tell me please:

Will it effect an anodized finish, for example can I put a set of wheels in whole to get rust of the spokes, without effecting the rims?

Do not use on alloy - it ruins it - only use on steel  or Chrome Moly - it doesn't touch stickers either so you can leave your frame stickers on - it only eats early schwin stickers for some reason.

Jobs a goodun  :daumenhoch:
