most likely cos top tubes are only 18.5" or so

most seem to prefer the late 80's frames were TT's were increasing
cheers Kev

As Kev said it's mainly to do with the top tube length. They're just too short for racing in anger unless you're around the 5ft mark. The reason that a lot of the bikes are now late 80's and early 90's is that the top tube lengths are more manageable.

I have a work collegue that rekons he used to ride a 23" top tube DB when he was 10 and it was also made out of Carbon Fibre.  :2funny:

I thought there were a few 'Gooses, or Geese  :D being raced in the last few series'.  I'm racing jimwise's old Supergoose with no problems - It probably helps that I'm 5'9" but even my newschool race bike only has a 20.5" toptube.  Just whack a long stem on and a layback post  :daumenhoch:

Steve vinoah has raced a diamond back for over a year now and won the OSWS06 number 1 plate on it. BMX796 races a mongoose cali most of the time. Quadpaul races an 18" top tube GT with a fair amount of wins under his belt... I race a 21" top tube bike, but mines a 1981 bike, not a late one.  :daumenhoch:

I can't believe its mostly a tube thing... i was 6' when i finished racing in 1985 (real life job commitments) and my early Aero Pro Burners & GT still fit a beaut... i'm just 5 stone heavier thats all  :2funny:

I snapped and bent a fair few frames 'n' forks' BITD with crazy jumping and awkward lands,so you can imagine,i'm crapping myself at the thought of racing one of the old bikes carrying an extra 5st!

If i had a classic goose or a Kuwa,i'd prob want to do it up - not risk racing it. I know i feel that way with my old GT i'm building right now... so the Burner may get an outing in 08 as i see that as the cheapest and easiest option (and doesnt matter if it gets hammered)

We all think that our old bikes we used to ride 20 years ago are ok until you ride/race/jump a new skool bike or cruiser then you realise how awkward your old bike is  :P trouble is that bitd thats all we new and had so didn't know any better.

Tracks are also about 10 times more technical/bigger than the 80s, so the angles of old school bikes don't make them feel that stable on these new school tracks.

The OS bikes are great fun to race against people on other OS bikes, but if people wanna progress they need to ride new school bikes and learn new school skills (manualling/jumping doubles, getting through rythm sections, etc).
